I've been playing a lot of facebook games lately, trying to see what all the fuss is about from a design perspective. I've even put money into them.

I think the problem is that they're all so formulaic, you play one game, you've played them all. The standard setup is very good and very moreish and is quite neat from a design perspective, but there's only so many times you can play the same game with a different skin.

I thought facebook games bursted awhile ago...

Is there any numbers anywhere on if there are people playing these sorts of games and smartphone games etc trading up and buying consoles, handhelds and PC games? There's gotta be some right all I read is people play smartphone/facebook games and that's more than enough, handheld gamings dead, no ones buying games. Surely some people think "hey this is quite good, I fancy the full gaming experience, gonna get me a 3DS*" etc

*or Console or PC or Vita etc

Most of these people don't even realise that what they're doing is "technically" gaming and most would probably never even think of doing something so frivolous as playing a video-game.

I did play a bit of Mafia Wars a while ago and it was good for a five minute break now and then but it got old fast.

This is a problem that applies equally to gaming as a whole, rather than just Facebook games.

Well that may be also due to the fact that most people played fb games while at work? Im an avid fb user but only when Im at work, when Im at home I rarely use it, apart from the quick browse from my mobile phone, and even I felt guilty about playing fb games while at work
