You could probably say that about most companies that go out of business that were at one point profitable. Normally the market has changed or the competition was too strong. In Game's case, probably both.

My guess they start losing money, spend more money to pull out of their situation and bury themselves faster.

I've been thinking about this. There will be no rescue for GAME. Best Buy, Comet owner OpCapita, and Walmart would all be crazy to want to buy a company with massive debt. From their point of view, better for it to go bust, then offer the banks money to buy/lease key locations around the country for use with a new Games retail company that has no debt.

Don't OpCapita specialise in buying companies with massive debt? It can actually be a lucrative business.

It may seem crazy but I don't think that 180mill is that bad for 1000+ stores and an established brand, although you've got to factor in some form of share buy out but it would cost a hell of a lot more to build that from the ground.

Money in stops, money out carries on. Simples.

They probably were not doing that great when they bought out Gamestation. At the time it seemed instead of trying to compete with them they just bought them up before they were overtaken.

Then a few years ago they put a stop to online discount codes (on pre-orders at least) as well as slashing most cashback sites rates to almost zero.

very detailed when you click on the link :)

Is GAME dead yet?
Nope

There's talk of a buyout, but don't expect many new games to be in stock

Question, say on the last day before game go under will there be a sale frenzy selling everything off? Or will the games etc go to creditors to sell on to other companies in bulk?

a) Any stock that GAME doesn't own outright will probably go back to the supplier.
b) Most of the used stock GAME owns have been sold off in last week's sale.

Thus, the forecast for the closing down sale is somewhat bleak.

Just tried to buy £10 of PSN code but told that £15 min (even though last time I bought £10 they gave me 2 £5 codes)

They're trying to squeeze every last £ out of us. I didn't buy as only really want £5 worth and thought that would be too cheeky to ask for!!

If the same shambles happens at Game as we had at Woolworths then the staff will have been notified of a 90% off fire sale a few weeks ago and will have all the best stuff safely tucked away in the stockroom and allocated fairly between the staff.

Which would be fair play (especially if they missed their pay day by going under before then). I'd be surprised if a bunch of staff didn't outright clean out their branch in that scenario. I've known others to even take the shelving with them to sell on as they were told they wouldn't get paid when their retail employers went under.

Game just sent me an email telling me they no longer have £10 PSN codes and cannot fulfil my order. They say they processed a refund to my card and have refunded the reward points I used (£6 pounds worth).

The fact that they sent me the code as soon as I ordered it and I have since used the code makes it much better. I await my refunds. :D

Same thing happened to me. I used up my £2.50 reward points and bought a £10 PSN card for £7.50 last week. They sent me the code which I used and bought Journey with. Now they've refunded me my points and the £7.50. So I got Journey for free.
Fuckwits.

If GAME does goes bust during trading hours, on that last day do you think manager's will turn a blind eye to staff appropriating stock?

When Faith the girls shoe shop went into administration my girlfriends mate was working there apparently at one point the bailiffs just came round one day chucked everyone out and bolted the door shut.

GameStation is probably about to be executed, the non-UK and Spain stores are probably about to be hung out to dry, company enters administration this week.
