Can you still buy them separately?

Yeah, I think they are more expensive than £6.80 though.

This is how pricing typically works for multiplatform XBLA and PSN releases:

XBLA: 400 MSP (£3.40), PSN: £3.99
XBLA: 800 MSP (£6.80), PSN: £7.99
XBLA: 1200 MSP (£10:20), PSN: £11.99

On steam, came with a free copy of something or other as well (maybe MI1)

Xbox 360 gamers will still be able to use redeemable codes to buy DLC and other products after Microsoft phases out Microsoft Points, Eurogamer understands.

SchminkyPinky is probably wrong.

I agree that they will still give away codes for game specific DLC/pre-order bonuses etc. but I am talking about giving away store currency to spend on whatever you want.

So people will pay more happily so they can easily see how much it costs without some simple maths :fp:

Developers are limited by what they can charge as for some reason MS says it has to be like 400/800/1200 points, they can't put their game up for say 575 points, so they either go cheaper at 400 or go more expensive at 800. This means that currently some things are cheaper on XBLA and some are cheaper on PSN, but overall they are about the same. They won't be able to do this without points as if a game is £7.99 on PSN then MS will look bad charging £10. So prices aren't suddenly going to go up, they will stay in line with PSN, and perhaps this will even lead to more competition between the two services.

Is it not true that the majority of multiplatform PSN+XBLA new releases these days follow this pricing structure?
Quote:
XBLA: 400 MSP (£3.40), PSN: £3.99
XBLA: 800 MSP (£6.80), PSN: £7.99
XBLA: 1200 MSP (£10:20), PSN: £11.99

...and do you not think MS will be tempted to bump the new release prices closer to or matching PSN prices when they start pricing stuff regionally?

I don't think it's as simple as that. This comparison shows £7.99 games on PSN are either £6.80 or £10.20 on XBLA (800/1200 points). It's an old comparison and a very small sample but shows variation in who is cheaper.

Edit: I did a quick search on a couple of more recent games to see if that comparison still holds, and it appears that Dungeon Defenders is £7.99 on PSN but 1200 points (£10.20) on XBLA. Also, Joe Danger was released on PSN almost two years ago at £9.99, it's was finally released on XBLA last month for £10.20.

They are both closed markets so I do not expect there to be any competition between them. Obviously people who own both consoles are quite few, we being part of that rare group of enphusiats.
