I hope they've fixed the Reach graphics engine so it doesn't have motion blur all over the shop this time. It was unbelievably bad in Reach :fp:

Really? Other than the opening cinematic with the two Falcons, I barely noticed it.

This is exactly what I was thinking

Same, I played through the whole thing on Saturday and didn't notice much motion blur at all.

I can only assume you're all playing on tiny screens, then (or blinded by your love for the franchise ;) ). The motion blur was apparent in every cutscene in the game. Someone moves (even just lifting their arm to shield their eyes from the sun) and they become a blubbery, unfocused mess. It was godawful, especially in such a big name game.

If you're going to add so much ridiculous post-processing (that, lets face it, ruins the picture quality), at least give the option to turn it off, like they did with the film grain in Mass Effect.

Also as evident in the Hitman thread my love of a franchise dosn't stop me from jumping all over it with negativity. And Halo is my most beloved franchise of all  *halo fanboy*

But everything else sounded perfect. Indestructible warthogs = \o/ online co-op = \o/

Reach's graphics engine :fp:

Would've been better if they made a new, good looking one from scratch. New studio, new start.

Nope, Frank is right, and I remember a few other mentioning it in the Reach thread. The motion blur in Reach was very noticeable and bloody annoying. Digital Foundry mentioned it in their analysis that it makes the framerate appear to be smoother http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digit ... is-article

EDIT: Thank you, Maf! \o/ I'm not crazy, then.

30" Panasonic Viera here, in 1080i.

Besides I don't think it matters, these things will have been tested in many different resolution by Bungie's test dept. As has been mentioned, the only time motion blur was noticeable in Reach was during the intro sequence of the first level when the falcons are circling and coming in to land.

Also in the link Maf posted on eurogamer it mentions 'impressive motion blur techniques' as if it were a technique implemented to make the game run smoother. I have to say having played through, and still playing Reach on a regular basis the only time I've seen this in a negative way has been the afformentioned first level intro. Either way I think to say it was incredibly bad is a massive overstatement.

If it ruined the visual experience for me, then I don't think it is.

I'm sure they'll find a way to explain it Maybe it is upgraded by whatever forerunner tech is on that planet or something.

Well, it does. Watch any cutscene in the game and it's very apparent. And it's completely unneccessary, that's the really annoying thing about it. There's absolutely no point in having it, it doesn't make it look more realistic, because no-one on earth motion blurs on every single tiny movement.

Just because it's a big game doesn't mean it should be immune to criticism. It had motion blur, it was rather annoying. Just accept it and we can all move on and hope that 343 have managed to fix it.

EDIT: @Photek, dammit, Anung!

I'm sorry Frank, but I just played campaign for over an hour lastnight and watched several cutscenes mid game and didnt notice ANY blur! Not during the game either .

LITERALLY NONE, AT ALL! 42" Samsung in 1080i.

Maybe my eyes need testing.
