Remedied: Alan Wake PC breaks even within 48 hours

Remedy has made its money back on the PC version of Alan Wake within 48 hours of it launching on Steam.

The keyboard and mouse version, which launched on Thursday, comes with multiple new features such as 3D and multi-screen, plus the inclusion of XBL DLC The Signal and The Writer.

“We are very happy with the sales and hitting #1 on Steam at launch was nothing short of amazing,” said Remedy’s Aki Järvilehto on its forums. “We recouped our development and marketing expenses during the first 48 hours. And yes, we’re certainly very excited about PC.”

Remedy plans to launch a retail PC version of the thriller on March 2 in Europe via Nordic Games.

Great news. Hopefully this could mean the green light for American Nightmares to make the jump to PC, too.

Certainly bodes well for a full blown sequel.

For all the faults it had, I did find Alan Wake a genuinely enjoyable experience on my 360.

Even Bad Games can sell well on PC, it seems.

PC gaming is still dead. What you see now is just the twitching of its corpse.

You may not like it but only in bizarro land could wake be considered a bad game.
It's got a fun, crazy story, great real world setting, looks beautiful, and enjoyable solid combat. Repetitive yeah, but never strayed into gooseberry fool territory.

Also, non-shoddy pc game port in selling well shocker. More on this late breaking story as it develops

Perhaps it's the graphics whore in me, but i'm enjoying this game far more than I did when I played it on the 360 on release. Having said that, there are still an incredible amount of irritations with it. Wake is a wanker, Barry is an irritating Joe Pesci wannabe, the story is utter drivel, collecting manuscript pages that tells the player what they are about to encounter is retarded, as it the collectables and the combat is repetitive to the point of being boring at times. Hey Ho! Perhaps I've just let my standards slip. Who knows.

Seriously? He is one of the most irritating characters that I've EVER come across in a game. Clichéd, loud, obnoxious, unfunny, looks awful and irritating to be around. Absolutely useless character. He does nothing but winge in chapter 2 and his entire purpose in chapter 3 is to tell the gamer the back story of Cauldron Lake, which he does in the first 2 minutes of the chapter. Very clumsy story telling.
If that strawberry floater was my agent I would have sacked the banana split after my second book.

How anyone could dislike Barry is beyond me :fp:
Wake is a bit of a cock, but where does it say all lead characters have to be godlike kings among men? The fact that he's a bit of an ass just makes him more believable. There's a distinction between a bad character, eg Rico from killzone, and a character who's a bit of an asshole, like wake.

Rico & Barry are the same to me. Utterly dire.

That's excellent news :)

I'm just happy for Remedy as it keeps them ticking over and further sales of the game will hopefully secure a proper sequel to Alan Wake \o/

Also Barry is awesome.

Ok. In what way exactly is Barry awesome? What does he do or say EXACTLY that inspire awe when you play the game, because I'm just failing to see it. All I see is an annoying twat, so what exactly am I missing?

He's a bit irritating to begin with, but he's the loveable kind of jackass.

The best kind of characters are the kind you have to warm to over time. He annoyed me at first but he grew on me over the course of the game and by the end he was firmly into loveable doofus category.
