Remedy have had to come out and just clarify that this Alan Wake game really isn't anything like Alan Wake 2 at all. I get the feeling we're going to get a completely different experience to Alan Wake 1 this time round, which is why i think they're so keen to stress that this isn't Alan Wake 2 or anything. As i said before i think we'll get some more experimental gameplay which may be something of a test bed for Alan Wake 2. I do think it'll utilize Kinect in some shape or form as well.
Remedy has played down suggestions that the upcoming XBLA Alan Wake game is 'effectively Alan Wake 2'.
Having seen the title's debut trailer ahead of its first public airing this weekend, VGAs event organiser Geoff Keighley told Xbox Live's Major Nelson that the "really ambitious" project "effectively is, I think, Alan Wake 2".
In response, Remedy senior writer Mikko Rautalahti took to the studio's official forums to say that, while he's happy to hear "he's [Keighley] excited about it" and the developer is "proud of the game", the XBLA project is definitely not Alan Wake 2.
"I think that since he invokes the 'Alan Wake 2' name, I should reiterate what we've said all along: this new game is not Alan Wake 2, and if we intended it to be that, we'd have named it that. (I know he means it as a compliment, and I appreciate that, I just don't want there to be any confusion about it.)," reads the post.
Remedy has previously said Alan Wake for XBLA will be "structured like a full release complete with a pretty damn impressive storyline," which explains its eagerness to distinguish the title from a full sequel.
The VGAs will take place on December 10 with Metal Gear Solid: Rising, BioShock Infinite and BioWare's mystery game set to be shown off, among others.
