BATTLE RACER FROM DEVELOPERS OF MASHED™ DUE FOR Q2 RELEASE

Milton Keynes UK, [DATE] – International publisher 505 Games has today announced WRECKED – Revenge Revisited – an explosive battle racer from the team behind seminal multiplayer title, MASHED. Set for release on both Xbox LIVE®Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation®Network, WRECKED – Revenge Revisited will be released this spring.

In 2004, developer Supersonic released MASHED for Xbox console, PlayStation®2 and Windows PC to public and critical acclaim, earning the description of, “Mad-ass multiplayer mayhem that really busts your ribs,” from C&VG. Fast forward to 2011, and the same team is developing a modern, action packed, full on mayhem, driving title with elements that made previous titles such a success. WRECKED – Revenge Revisited will be the first ever online racing game from Supersonic.

“We’re really excited to partner with 505 Games to bring the spiritual successor to Mashed to our existing fan-base and our unique style of racing mayhem to a brand new audience. We want to bring some soul and humour back into the racing genre, and can’t wait for PSN and XBLA consumers to get their hands on Wrecked – Revenge Revisited.” Said Pete Williamson, Managing Director, from Supersonic.

WRECKED is not about fast lap times, gaining pole position, perfect cornering or aerodynamics; it’s about winning by any means necessary. Aggressive driving is not so much encouraged, but a given prerequisite as players will come across a wide variety of weapons and vehicle enhancements to help muscle rivals off the track and out of the points. Survivors are encouraged to keep their wits about them however, as vanquished foes are given the opportunity for instant revenge via five different aerial strikes to add a certain spice to proceedings.

WRECKED builds upon this unique formula by adding customisation of player cars, so rivals will see each other coming with no mistake. A single player Championship Mode will offer 24 challenges divided across four disciplines to allow drivers plenty of solo time to hone their skills. Up to four players can tear out against each other in either local or online multiplayer modes across a number of different tracks in distinctive locations.

“With WRECKED, Supersonic are again able to show just how good they are at putting together irresistible, pick up and play racing action,” commented Tim Woodley, Global Brand Director, 505 Games. “MASHED was a one-off title that has yet to be toppled in the fun stakes, and we’re proud to be able to bring a modern take on a classic to a new generation.”

Debut Trailer!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since Mashed came out, there's been a lot of games that have attempted to replicate the formula (TNT Racers, Scrap Metal) but failed miserably, with the original Mashed still being better than any of them despite being nearly seven years old. It's the return of the king, currently scheduled for release in Early 2012.

GRc Mashed fans assemble!

Ah so that's what the genre's called!

Oh, and Amen to the statement in general.

It really is, my brother and I still play it regularly to this day.

Did anyone else used to just play on Polar Wharf repeatedly? Such a simply track but seriously one of the best ever to feature in a racing game.

Was that the one with long slippy ice bit? Generally I liked to mix up the tracks. I liked the one on the motorway, it was pretty tense.

Yeah, it had two long icey straights with really sharp turns at end of each run. Oh yeah, the motorway track was brilliant, dodging traffic was epic. And the construction site track was great too, with the timed detonations that would shake the environment.

Yeah I kinda sucked at the icy one, especially if I was in the lead - I'd always misjudge where to brake and fly off the track. :fp:

I really hope Wrecked has as many memorable and well designed tracks. Judging from what I've read on their Dev Blog they really seem to be listening to the fans and taking on on-board a lot of what made Mashed so great and building upon on it.

Despite all the amazing games coming out this, this is very very close to the top of my most wanted list. :fp:

Now that you mention it, the second screenshot does look very TF2ish, the environment in particular. Definitely not a bad thing.

It's possible. A well timed drum bomb or tactical use of the flamethrower can stop a homing missile right in it's tracks even on PW, as well as the air strikes. Speaking of which, very curious to see what new aerial revenge weapons they're adding.

I was more a purveyor of the drift left and right to try and let it glide majestically past technique. Not that it worked particularly well...

That said, a clean landing following a homing missile attack was a very special kind of victory. Also, much love for the skyscraper level. Infuriatingly great.

My brother was, and still is the master of recovering from practically any air strike/homing missile/mortar and I've lost count of the amount of exploits he managed to discover. On PW for example, once your opponents round the bound, you can simply stop and reverse back down the straight, in parallel to the other cars, and then go full speed ahead when they reach the next bend, and you'll get points for first.

Also, found some new info on game's Facebook page, added to OP:

Quote:
• Battle Mode - the classic knock your opponents off the track, or out-drive them, to score points. Aggressive play is encouraged and weapons can be used to annihilate opponents. Online, local or co-op play for 1-4 players.

Six tracks seems like very few, although if they're aiming for quality over quantity that's fine I guess.

Four new weapons it seems. Plasma Cannon, Taser, Rockets (assuming they are actually different from the Homing Missiles) and Turbo Boost. Won't have to rely on the flame thrower as a make shift turbo anymore then.

Interested to see how all the new air strikes will work. I hope the multiplayer is flexible enough to allow for very specific match setups.

Just release it already, please? :(

6 tracks is a lot less than I was hoping for to be honest. :(

If they're good quality I don't see the problem. I don't remember playing any more than 6 tracks repeatedly anyway. Plus, it's a downloadable game (hopefully 800 points, but almost certainly not) so I'd have thought it would be stripped down anyway.

It sounds great, but no comedy hammers pick up? Driving around corners all bunched up only for someone to get the instant hammer pick up which gives everyone temporary over-sized hammers in micro machines (was this in mashed too? i actually can't remember) was one of the finest (and hilarious) things in all of gamingdom.

No, that wasn't in Mashed unfortunately.

I'd imagine there'll be DLC tracks at some stage. But as Lupus said, even if they're all really good it won't matter. To be honest, if the game only had one track and it was Polar Wharf, I'd still buy it.

If they don't have it or a version of it in this I'd be very surprised indeed.
