Its not ridiculous to say that alone makes it more visually appealing at all.

And quite clearly peopele aren't saying that alone makes it a superior experience, its a part of it along with the superior controls and redesigned gameplay.

This thread has really took a turn for the delightful, hasn't it?

Anyway, was expecting MGS 3D to be a lot worse than it was, based on the framerate talk. Can you move and shoot (in first person) in the HD version? I don't remember being able to do so in the original, but that might be a subsistence edition. I'm only interested in replaying MGS3 (so the bonus of PW and 2 in HD doesn't tempt), and the gameplay tweaks of this version could win me over. The 3D was pretty tasty too, especially when you get a nice camera pan and the grass brushes past.

I'm waiting to see if the final version tidies up the framerate stuff in the demo, as it does jump about noticeably in the cutscenes, but I might just end up flipping a coin.

Have you read the GAF thread? Apparently MGS3D the worst thing ever created and has no right to exist.

Yes, less and more cramped buttons definitely make the 3DS version the one with the superior control scheme. You need to buy an add on to make the game playable, how in the name of christ does that lend itself to having superior controls? And as I said before, even if you were the play it with the CPP, doing so would completely take away the portable factor...and at that stage it only makes sense to play the console version.

No you don't. Stop lying.

Have you played Peace Walker on PSP, by any chance? Pretty much the exact same control scheme.

I'd take this version over the HD version. No you can't move and shoot in first person or crouch and walk.

Works perfectly fine without the CPP. Honestly though I'd have preferred a touch-screen aiming method as it's far superior to button or analogue aiming.

Yes I have and I found that it was impossible to comfortably and enjoyably play because of the controls.

How was it impossible to play and uncomfortable? All you really need is the circle-pad and shoulder buttons unless you're aiming the gun or reloading/switching the items.

All the menu stuff is handled on the touch-screen and other that I fail to see what could be causing any problems.

I was having a read of that earlier. It sent me into the demo expecting it to melt my 3DS or something, and while the framerate stuff was noticeable the actual gameplay bits seemed solid, so I suppose that ended up making the demo seem *more impressive* considering the train wreck I was actually expecting. I don't think I'd want to play the final game if the cutscenes were like that though, so hopefully we get some confirmation on them stabilizing them. Although you do get to take silly pictures and put them on as camo! That sounds like the kind of innovate new feature GAF would be all over.

I have to admit, that's a NANOMACHINES!-esque leap in logic. It's really going to come down to personal preference, and it's only natural that if you didn't get along with PW's controls then this version of MGS3 (sans CPP) isn't going to be up your street either.

A lot of people here (and round the internet) don't.

Its been said in more than one place that the 3DS version looks better than the HD game, the 3D certainly is very impressive, to act like it isn't is ridiculous.

Well as someone who bought the HD Collection last night so played through the beginning of MGS3 last night and then the 3D demo just now I can safely say it really isn't better looking than the HD version. The 3D is probably the best I've seen so far on the 3DS (Much better than RE: Revelations which I never have 3D on for that anyway) but I really don't like when it cancels out the 3D when you aim you gun in FP.

The appeal to me of handheld gaming is the fact that I can take it places with me and play while I'm away from my main consoles. I'm not going to sit in front of my 360 (portable factor gone because of the CPP), playing Snake Eater with controls that hurt my hands, on a tiny screen whilst experiencing a vastly diminished framerate. All problems which could be solved by playing the console version.

I don't even think games like MGS3 should be on handhelds in the first place regardless of tech or physical limitations but that's opening up a whole other can of worms. Anyway, it's clear I'm in the minority and I'm not going convince anyone. As you were.

Have to say, I'm struggling to believe that even Edge would award it an [8] if the framerate in the cutscenes of the final version is that bad. Apparently this is the TGS demo with added circle pad pro support.

Oh and has anyone else's CPP battery started to die? Just started a game of RE and a message flashed up letting me know the battery is almost dead  How many hours was it supposed to last?

A bit bizarre that they would just "dump" out an old demo, but I suppose they could have had a really short time from Nintendo going "WE SUPPORT DEMOS NOW, K?" to getting a demo running, polished and ready to go before launch.

Also don't forget the demo has been out for about a month or maybe a little bit longer in Japan (probably the same demo just with English dialogue).

The demo starts during a codec call with The Boss telling you to remember CQC and ends when you reach the building Sokolov (sp?) is kept in.
