Have changed my mind about this game, think I'm starting to see where Edge are coming from... It's pissing me off far too much and its really lacking polish in areas. Not sure I'm gonna keep it.

Boom same here. I also overplayed the demo and it doesn't help that the tracks in the final game mostly suck. Serenity and the demo tracks are great but aside from that there's not much I've enjoyed. Trading it tomorrow towards credit for a 360 in time for the Witcher 2 I think.
I've not played this much since I bought it. I just feel like there's something missing - and not just the unforgivable lack of a freeride mode. Don't get me wrong, it's a solid enough game with plenty of scope for fun, but it just hasn't gripped me the way the original and SSX 3 did.
Maybe a little extra game time will help remedy that feeling. If not then it'll at least cement my views on the game and I can punt it while its worth is higher.
I've also soured on it after having played it for a couple of hours. Most the tracks designs are just really poor. I wish they'd have just made a few and ensured they were all of high quality rather making strawberry floating loads which are mainly extremely unenjoyable to ride.
the Achievements I've seen where you have to take them on without equipment
Some of them are going to be really tough. The ice axe one was pretty simply but I failed miserably trying to the armour one.
Just did 'Tree Hugger' first time. Actually, it was pretty easy. No 'mad skilz' required. Absolutely loving this game. Just got to Africa on World Tour. Just a bit to go and then I'll have all the riders unlocked and I can get into the meat of the game in Global.
3 descents done, now on Alaska. It's been years since I played 3 (and even longer since Tricky) but I don't see what makes it so different. The lack of free roam isn't great and I expect there will be nothing as epic as the 30 minute trek down a mountain like in 3. It doesn't have the colour of Tricky but it has it's own perks such as the different tools it gives you to master each range and I think the music is pretty great.
This has too be one of the worst starts to a game ever. There's just too much padding and added featues I couldn't give a stiff about and it's horribly long winded. Just let me play the strawberry floating game already!
If things don't improve drastically beyond this horribly dull opening then it'll be traded by Monday and I'll be back to playing SSX 3.
For people moaning. Play explore mode and online. That's where it really shines. Especially online. That gooseberry fool is strawberry floating addictive. The world tour thing is literally a tutorial. It's for teh newbs.
Def not me then. Total newb, can't do online due to the eyes, simply don't see it quickly enough.
Thanks for confirming Fade, one for me to pass on.
Eh. The thing with this game is that "online" means a) friends leaderboards with ghosts (in Explore mode) and b) TrackMania-esque high-score sessions over a specific time period on a specific course (Global Events).
Here are some general tricking tips: Flips are worth more than spins. All you can eat (Left > Right) and Black Bird (Right > Left) are two of the highest scoring tricks in the game. Tweak everything. Trick Everything Use trick mods if you have them. If you're going to compete in global events do it on a maxed out character with decent trick it gear. Long grabs+flips are worth more than doing multiple tricks in one jump.
Here are some tips for those who already know everything above but want to hone their score a bit more: Make sure you are utilizing the beginning of the track in order to get tricky/super tricky before the first big jump. Almost all the tracks in the game have enough space for you to get tricky before you reach the first big jump. Get that score multiplier up to x20 and keep it there. If you bail or lose your combo start over. If you want those high scores you need perfect runs. Massive Flips and All You Can Eat/BlackBird Grabs, all the time, every time. Avoid Duplicates since they nerf the amount of points you will get from that trick. Rails can be good or bad, once your multiplier is up at x20 hold one trick instead of doing multiple tricks on a rail, the massive bonus will net you a lot of points coming off of a rail. Trick everything, there's usually natural bunny hops or half pipes all along every track. You need to utilize everything. Boost sparingly. Usually whenever you need speed for a big jump, otherwise keep off of it. You want to be tricking as much as you can without bailing, so make use of everything you can without lowering your flow. The edge of the tracks usually have a lot of hops and ramps you can use, the secret to getting those high scores is finding the best path down the mountain for tricking. Take a few runs and follow the Diamond Bracket Ghost to see how they did it. Those 80m runs are possible, just check out how they did it. Most of the time its precise control over what tricks they are using, avoiding duplicates, and finding the optimal path for tricking. Take a few runs to figure out what their path is and what they are tricking off of.

i'm so poor at this stuff that i can't get involved sadly.
Good that it's aimed at the online crowd that love that stuff (my son would) but not for me.

left down, and right down are really high scoring as well. The 40mill run that was done on the demo by someone used only those 2 tricks.
I use Kaori's signature trick as well though because it looks strawberry floating sick.

I don't see the problem with that with this type of game. Trick runs have always been single person anyways if I remember correctly. And having multiple people race at once would just induce lag and lots of waiting. And yield no real benefit. In a car game I could understand. But in a snowboarding game you rarely interact with the other riders. I love the online. It's very refreshing. And it still beams in other people playing at the same time as you, which I like.
