Been reading good things about Hugo and Abel as a team. Might actually give them a go instead of sticking with Ryu/Sagat.

Not like I'm going to get gubbed at distance by fireballs am I?

With Hugo you will. He really has no way around fireballs from a distance. And No goodanti airs apart from ex backbreaker. But holy crap he does a lot of damage. 400 damage meterless combos.
Abel can roll through fireballs so no too bad for him.

I love Hugo and Abel because they can cancel there overhead attacks (close HK for Abel and HP for hugo) into launchers, gives them an incredibly dangerous mix up game. Especially considering they have command grabs as well.

My teams are Ken and Hugo & Abel and Julia :D

BTW if anybody wants any help just ask. I'm not bad at this game.

I see they didn't bother with a tutorial. Another thing Capcom should hire ArcSys to consult on.

Main menu > challenge > tutorial

Do keep up at the back.

Point noted, although somebody should have told them that it'll be better having the tutorial have it's own option in the main menu instead of being hidden under Challenges (which a new player quite honestly would never look in).

When you start up the game for the first time it pops up "Do you want to do the tutorial?"
Since it is probably something you do only once it is fine hidden after that

The thing is, SFxT's tutorial just bombards you with STUFF and never truly explains anything. It's just 'LOOK AT EVERYTHING YOU CAN DO NOW GO DO IT'. Not an intuitive tutorial in the slightest. No individual character aides either.

Melatonin, from what I've gleaned from my short time with the game the biggest bit of advice would be - don't go for constant dial-a-combos, the light - medium - heavy - heavy ones, as they can leave you very open to punishment. For me the game is best played in a similar fashion to SF IV, go for pokes, feel out your opponent, try and ascertain their weakness' and focus on crossups. If you're confident you'll be able to snag them then yeah, go for the combo.

But just don't forget to tag, losing when you haven't tagged is a soul crushing moment. One of my favourite tags is to launch into a super move with one character then spend one bar instantly tagging in my partner. If the super hits, I've got them in a tasty combo. If it doesn't, I'm still in and safe and may surprise them with something.

Cheers Dala. I was actually doing alright for the first few ranked games, but it quickly became apparent that those were mashed-out victories at best. I'm trying to pick up Ibuki and Hwoarang as my team, former for the familiarity of her moves, and the latter because I quite fancy the idea of kicking someone to death. But I just can't piece together any easily-remembered combos that incorporate the both of them, and as you say, more often than not I'll just lose with Ibuki before she can even tag out, which is beyond saddening.

Need to spend a bit of time in training mode today I think.

A big part of the game, for me, is nailing down your preferred uses of the cross meter and focusing on those. There are so many that it's too easy to get swamped thinking 'well I could do this, or this, or this so focus then branch out later. I like the big two character super arts, you can easily cancel into one from a hit confirmed heavy for instance, and they do huge damage with the right combination (Poison start -> Hugo finish is staggering). Because that is a big part of my style I will use charge projectiles and attacks (every character has one, find it) to catch foes out and work on getting in with my preferred method.

It's the dial-a-combo that is the game's gift and its curse. It's so tempting to just get in and spam it out but it's stupidly unsafe, and none of its steps cancel (not to standard supers at least. I think some EX supers can sneak in). The amount of times I've gone light-medium and tried to get a super move in after that, it's just not as intuitive a system as one would think.

Cross combo advice - you want to be using special moves with the character you call in. So heavy punch to Shuryuken, or the Tekken guys have some tasty individual juggle hits. What you don't want to do is come in and try and dial another light - medium - heavy as you may logically think, as that just won't work and will just result in a weak combo.

Meter management is a big part of this game. You'll tend to find cross cancel combos (where you press mp+mk) do the most damage for the least meter.

Okay, Ibuki's a no-no. Getting absolutely destroyed with her. Still have faith in Hwoarang though.

Did 16 of Asuka's trials without even really trying, think I'll give her a whirl next. If that fails, I'll, I dunno, cry or something.

You're not gonna be immediately good with a character. That's not how fighting games work. The only really simple Tekken characters are Raven and Paul. Every other character has a billion chains and stances.

Try and actually think about what you're doing and learn the properties of some of the moves.

Mate, I'm pretty familiar with how fighting games work, and I'm actually okay with being bodied over and over again right now. But it's also pretty clear that playing a Street Fighter 4 character in a Street Fighter 4 fashion isn't really cutting it for this, which is exactly what I kept on doing with Ibuki.

So how about a little less of the condescending tone next time, eh? Either that or a face/feet-off with my Hwoarang.

What about giving Juri a go? Could be good for getting into positions where Hwoarang can be brought in to tee off with. Pretty much in Feng Shui mode at all times too.

I'll add you on PSN later. If you have it on playstation that is.

I will rough you up a little bit and stuff.

All the street fighter characters have exactly the same special moves and normals. Outside of the combos you can do. They just altered some of the frame data and hitboxes slightly.

Just bought this off Shopto as my mate wants to play with me on it... I'll probably cry at my 1000-lose streak when I play it. Like always.

Why he's not in 360 version I'll never know. Never mind, I'll eventually get it on Vita in future.
