An HD update of the Sega Genesis Castle of Illusion has been officially announced for summer 2013. This is the second beloved Disney-influenced platformer from that era being refreshed, with WayForward currently remaking Ducktales Remastered for Capcom.

According to PlayStation Blog, the game is being developed by Sega Studios Australia, which will reportedly be shuttered by year's end. The new Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse will be available on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC via Steam.

Actually that doesn't look bad.

Still not quite sure why they don't understand that the original graphics will always look better though, it must be a cheaper way of making these games.

Cautiously optimistic, as these high-spec remakes don't always turn out well. If this one does though...oh man

I don't care what anyone says, the original game is an absolute classic to this day and one of my favourite platformers :wub:

They should include some content from the Master System version, since it would add some sufficient length to the remake*. I didn't grow up with the SMS one but it is indeed superb in its own right. Quite tricky too! Although it does mercifully give you circa nine continues.

*I was going to say package there...until I realized how that sounded...o_o
