12 episodes or burn HBO to the ground.

There's easily more than enough material for a spin-off but given how the show's rating has gotten worse over the years and considering how lavishly produced it is, I can't see HBO splashing any more cash on it.

Well this is really unexpected and pretty gutting. After series 4, i thought it could go on for another 4 series. I was just as excited for the many seasons ahead as the next, the show still feels fresh, the introduction of new characters, the new locations, it's not a show like some where the longer it goes on the more it feels like it's restricted as a whole for focussing on the same group of characters from the pilot. At this point in other shows I get fatigue but this show has eased into itself and still feels like there's loads of untapped potential there. Like Al Capone's story has not progressed at all in 3 seasons really.

Apparently it's less of a creative decision and more of a contractual decision, Winter was only signed on for 5 seasons,
He is producing another show for HBO about rock stars in the 70′s with martin scorsese and mick jagger. bobby carnivale is going to be the lead actor.

In other words, he got bored with BE and found a way out. Really disappointing considering how good this show was getting and how much story remains. I feel kind of cheated.

Agree with everyone else that there is plenty of seasons worth of material left yet. It feels like it's just getting started, especially with the Capone stuff.

Have they confirmed yet if it's going to be a full season?

With no evidence either way, I'm expecting a six episode order.

Man, seriously strawberry float HBO. This was their best show on the air. Much rather watch an episode of this than yet another boring ass episode of Khaleesi apologising to the townsfolk for her strawberry floating drangons accidentally barbequing a few kids.

It is indeed a shame. It is better than Game of Thrones I agree, with far better acting too. Not actually sure why GoT's has the insane love it receives. I like the show sure, but would much rather watch this. I get really engrossed with Boardwalk and it's a real shame it is ending. I just hope it keeps it's consistent levels of excellence in the short final season.

A plus is that with 8 episodes and it being in the future, surely there will be no Mrs Shroeder bollocks in it.

Well, if there are any positives to come out of this, it's that there surely won't be any early or mid-season lulls as there often is with this show with 1 or 2 really slow episodes. If we were getting 10 episodes I'd actually be happy about it.

I just hope it isn't too rushed with just 8, though.

So looking forward to the new series, just a shame it isn't getting a full run. Still my favourite show on tv, really going to miss it :(

Just realised I still haven't watched season 4. And season 5 starts tomorrow in the US.

Guess that's this weekend sorted :datass: :datass:
