Seems odd to me people suggesting that donation=redhat would lead to a two tier system when we already have different coloured ones.

Well, that certainly is a questionable reasoning behind differentiating from one set of users to another, if it is true of course. An answer from one of the bluehats or admins might useful here.

That's not the reason, some were bluehatted because they had their own sites & there were fears they'd set up their own forums & split up the userbase. (as such they have to have a say in the general running of the forum so nothing on here affects their site)

Others were bluehatted because of their contributions to the old GR & ongoing contributions to this forum.

I quite like the idea of donations actually. If there was some money left over after the forum running was all paid for you could maybe do a random prize draw or summat with a decent game related prize (A Coll Ed game, online voucher, Bargain new(ish) release). Only people who have contributed would be in the prize draw, therefore people who haven't donated don't lose anything and the thought of a decent prize draw may even entice them to contribute a little, even a pound donation would get an entry. Simples.

Fiver a year? Well worth it I reckon.

I would happily contribute to the upkeep of this fine place. Recognition would be nice but that should be a decision reached by steve or garth as they see fit. We should want to pay - not for a reward. Although a green hat would be strawberry floating lush!

The constant 'wah wah, why do they deserve bluehats, they did nothing' then the subsequent explanations from bluehats (which happens every time) does serve to create a two-tiered system, but not in the way people complain about. I can't speak for other bluehats, but for me anyway it makes me feel totally unwelcome in a forum I put time and effort into helping get started, and makes me feel guilty for even posting here, because it obviously offends people like JV, Herbi etc. The forum has spoken though; woe betide that my name colour keep causing such upset.
