I saw somebody online saying his parents saw Duke Ellington live but the first band he saw was Sleeper. I thought that might make for an interesting thread.

Who was the first (famous!) band/singer you saw perform live. And who was the first (famous!) band/singer that one of your parents saw?*

For me, my first band was Guns 'n' Roses.

My mum's was David Essex (she saw Showaddywaddy not long after).

*I realise not everyone has parents that are still around, or who they want to talk to, so feel free to swap for any older relative!

First live music i saw was at an event called Silverstone Summerfest '99.

The act was a boyband called A1. :shifty:

No idea what my dad saw as he never really spoke about stuff like that.

In all honesty though, i've never really had much of a chance to see live music, i've never actually been to a proper concert of any kind.

First band I went to see was Kula Shaker at Colston Hall in Bristol :datass:

I don't know what my dad's first band was, but I know he went to see Led Zeppelin at the bath and west showground once. He also had tickets to go and see the beatles with his brother when they were in their early popularity, but didn't go as he said he'd go and see them some other time :fp:

I've technically seen them. They played Bristol Pride about 10 years ago. I remember I had been out all day and was walking home very very drunk. As I walked through Castle Park I could hear "Take on Me" playing, so popped over to have a look, I realised it wasn't a-ha and so buggered off home.

My first concert was Bobby Brown, backed up by Cookie Crew 8-) . I haven't seen many live gigs at all, though!

My dad's faves are The Rolling Stones.

My mum's first gig was The Beatles. Said it was gooseberry fool, though, as other than the non-stop hysterical screaming from girls in the audience she wasn't able to hear a thing.

Mine was Northside, lol.

First live music event for me was a festival and I can't remember who the first act I saw was. Lead singer was hanging from the stage, suspended by hooks pierced through his back, if that rings a bell for anyone.

First specific gig I went to was... you know what, I can't remember that either.

I don't think my parents have ever been to a live music event.

My Mum's first gig was David Cassidy, and my Dad's was the Rolling Stones.

Mine was technically Louise Redknapp Neé Nurding just after she got kicked out of Eternal for being white, but that was a school trip so I'm not sure it counts.

Think the first one I saw proper was probably Bowling For Soup.

EDIT; Actually I think I saw Green Day in Manchester earlier than that.

Well, that was the rumour at the time if I remember correctly. Eternal were trying to crack America and they were having trouble getting airplay on R'n'B music stations because they didn't want to play mixed-race bands. Could be bollocks but that was definitely the story back then.

These days you can be deported from America just for saying you're in Eternal.
