Words that you used to get wrong

I used to think beck and call was beckon call, due to the meaning of the word beckon.
And I used to think prima donna was pre-Madonna, thinking that it meant people who were around before Madonna was famous.

The amount of people that use this and continually get it wrong is unbelievable.

I can't think of any that I used to/still get wrong (though I'm sure there are several) but I know plenty of people who say 'should of' instead of 'should have'/'should've'. I also know some people who constantly say 'pacifically' instead of 'specifically'

I used to think
can't be arsed was
can't be asked.
I once said it in class (
it's as though they can't be asked) and my teacher asked me to repeat myself. So I did. She looked over at another teacher who happened to be there and they had a quiet conversation on what the flip I was saying. A couple of girls asked me what I'd said and so I repeated it again. Nothing more was said and so I was left more than a little confused. Years later I realised my mistake and it still makes me chuckle and cringe in equal measure. And then, later still, I learned I actually had got it right and can't be arsed was a sweary version of what I'd said.

I did the prima donna one too. Also "pantomine" and "electricicty". At least I wasn't one of those wankers who say "skelinton".

Let me axe you this - do people really say arks? I've heard axe, which sounds stupid, but arks?

It's a little unfair of you if you're referring to Afro-Caribbean people who say it that way.

One of my mates uses 'generally' as his main filler word which grates but it's worse when he uses it as a substitute for genuinely. The stories he tells about how he had a generally good time, or how it was generally the funniest thing he'd ever seen makes me wince.

My wife and I started watching Breaking Bad at the weekend, and she's proceeded to call it Breaking Back ever since.
