I think 10 posts per day is a little high for the size of game GR likes to run.

But a more zealous inactive cull could definitely be beneficial. I think the seer circle got a lot of flack for allegedly killing in thread activity this game but the real killer was that none of the wolves posted. Like they killed all the active players in thread.... then continued to post nothing themselves anyway.

I would definitely have axed the players (even the wolves) who didn't post for multiple days in a row.

TAP got away with not posting for three days as the last wolf alive. Of course the village weren't going to be able to isolate him on behaviour.

None of that was posted in hindsight, but in real-time in the deadposting thread.

Yeh but when you're not of the game it is easier to be dispassionate, there is a difference. You said yourself that you didn't think TAP was the Alpha, and he's the only wolf that got away.

I acknowledge that everyone is a great mafia player when they're dead and all which is sort of what you're saying here. But i'm struggling to think of an example this game where anyone except mcj went back in thread to check deceased player's posts on role flip at all.

Don't think this would have been useful for any wolf except PMM because the others barely posted but it is generally a useful strategy I think was slightly ignored.

Sure but it takes bloody ages and is boring.

It might be interesting to have more active players be more difficult to kill, for both the village and the wolves. Maybe you're faced with a choice of killing two people from the bottom half or one person from the top half. It relies on having a consistent, accurate, fool-proof post-count ranking, which we haven't had in the past, but if it were automated then it would be possible.

I was genuinely always suspicious of mcj because he seemed almost too helpful, and his early votes against wolves seemed to exonerate him (but they never gained any traction, so as throwaway votes they would have made perfect forward cover). He started PMing myself and Mommy very late into the game and I was suspicious he was trying to ingratiate himself with us - consider he was the only person to do it.

Harsh.

j/k I'm not going to deny that my script certainly needs some TLC before I would consider it reliable!

He consistently believed Daz to be a wolf role and ultimately was not aware of TAP's alignment at the end of the game. He also PMed me to note the suspicious nature of two seers, two humans and Ian at the start of the game( ). The tactics he describes might have caught a couple of the wolves faster(and I'd note that GCE was posting up regular counts on things like this) but wouldn't ultimately have won us the game, as I see it.

EDIT: I'll also say that I was relying on other people to do a lot of the legwork this time round as I've been working pretty hefty shifts, so thanks to Jenuall, GCE and ORKN for sorting a lot of that out.

I also had 3 wolves in my original group of ~8 people that I wanted to look at. Also the second, suspicious nature = doesn't necessarily mean I wanted to lynch them, more a hunch that there's more to them than meets the eye.

I’m not criticising by the way, merely pointing out that you got as much wrong as you did right from what I’ve read in the commentary thread, and for all your pushing of the inactive lynch as the way forward, it’s not an infallible method. It might have worked reasonably well here(though again, it wouldn’t have flushed out TAP) because Mommy sucked all the need for the wolves to stay active out of the game, but that’s not to say it’s always the best, or most relevant tactic to use.

I know that. I have never said that targeting the inactives is an infallible or all-conquering strategy, but it is a good strategy to start the game with, when there's usually nothing to go on, which has lasting benefits. The only reason I harped on about it throughout this particular game was because PPM specifically tried to steer the thread away from looking at the pool of inactives I identified on the first day. By design it is supposed to be a short-term plan, not an enduring strategy.

Nor an endearing one it would seem ;)

I think there is logic behind it early doors, certainly it makes as much if not more sense than basically any other play at the start of a game - unless you get a massive slip up from a wolf there isn't really much else to go on.

Also killing genuinely inactive humans early isn't the biggest loss - if people really aren't going to participate and get involved then there are worse outcomes than lynching them!

I meant "before this game"! You did a good job. :P

Your script seems pretty good to me, but I can probably make it easier on you by exposing a "post count API" server-side.

I think everyone's in agreement that complete inactivity shouldn't really be a viable way to play the game. Lynching inactives is a good way for villagers to promote posting, but I think ideally there needs to be some mechanic in play to do some of this work anyway. I don't think it should ever be possible that a player can not post for days in a row and still remain in the game.

Yeah I agree that something server side would be better (and more reliable :slol: ) but it was fun to play about with it a web-scraping approach even if just as a technical exercise!

It wouldn't have worked to capture TAP, that's the real point. We didn't need to do any of that stuff to capture regular wolves because the seers did it all for us.

But in answer to your question: not badly enough. :D

If nothing else I reckon this game is definitive proof that the forum games scene on GR is alive and well. Over 180 pages total in just over three weeks shows that there's a demand for it!

Thank you to everyone who played, commented and/or followed along. It's been great!

Over to you for the next game! :msgreen:

I might try my hand at Are You A Fascist at some point in the near future, been thoroughly enjoying playing the board game versions over the past few weeks and reckon I could do it some justice.

EDIT: That said, I’m not sure how well a lot of the fascist cues would transfer to a forum, we might just look like a bunch of neo-Nazis. :slol:
