I still refuse to buy into touchsreen computing though. Somehow my monitor always ends up smuged despite the fact I rare touch it, so having a control interface like that would be awful. I'll probably only get one when it becomes a standard feature of pretty much all monitors.

No, there was a tool for that with early versions of Windows 7, I'm sure there was.

Have to say i love it im glad they are using the metro UI as it really is very clever and works so well. I think there's two important points here. The first is the fact windows 8 will run on ARM chips could mean for example in the future A windows phone could run Windows phone 7 when used as a phone and then docked like the atrix it could switch to windows 8. Think this could be very clever. Also a lot of people say they don't want to use a touch screen on there desktop but i would have thought that using a camera like kinect could make this work very well. Not for everyone of course but i think it would work for a lot

No, there was a tool for that with early versions of Windows 7, I'm sure there was.
I have a launch copy of Windows 7 Ultimate, and I have to use Daemon Tools to mount ISOs.

I know you can burn ISO files to disc in Windows 7, but I don't think you can mount stuff without using a separate program.

As someone who's had to use XP, Vista, and 7 all in the same day before, I'm going to totally agree with this. 7 is miles ahead.

I agree, when I used XP again at Christmas, it just felt really dated, so much so I now regularly use Ubuntu on my netbook, don't get me wrong it's a great OS, but compared to modern ones it just doesn't stand up.

Microsoft topped XP with Vista as far as I'm concerned. It did a handful of things better in terms of its UI (the start menu search being the most awesome), looked better, and wasn't really worse in any way unless you were running it on a low end system. Windows 7 is much, much better than Vista in pretty much every way, and runs well on just about anything. Windows 8 is supposed to have lower requirements than 7 incidentally.
Honestly, what exactly does XP do better than Windows 7? All I can think of is better support for a few really old games, and GOG.com seems to be taking care of that.
EDIT: Put it this way. I work in an IT dept. where half the staff used to be of the opinion that any new Microsoft release after XP was a terrible thing, and just "change for the sake of it". We're now working to upgrade everything to Windows 7, and I don't think there's anyone left who doesn't now prefer it.

Actually, yeah. You're right, Windows 7 is pretty strawberry floating incredible. If Windows 8 continues along the same lines, I won't be complaining.
