Nonsense. There is no reason not to install a program like the one I mentioned, you can still use the start screen but with the benefit of the start button in all its former glory.

You get a start button if you install the 8.1 update.

And what does that do when you instinctively click on it to start a program?

You can put whatever you want on the start screen, I've got all my MS Office and Adobe CS Programs there.

And you don't miss the ease of having the recent programs on the start button? Not to mention avoiding the annoyance of going to a whole new screen.

I don't know what you people are doing. The Start button is great.

The things I use the most are on the taskbar anyway as they were when I was using Windows 7. It doesn't take long to get used to not having the start menu tbh.

I can do either take you to a tile screen or a list of programs.

There are settings to get it to do either.

This is what i mean, people just install a bloody app without looking at what the native system can do.

I've not used recent programs box on 7 or XP since ever. You pin the regularly used stuff to you task bar. You do the same in 8. Except now you can create groups of tiles for programs you do different take with. Before you could have done it but it was a faff now you just unpin anything you don't want and add what you do, then group them to make it nor efficient.

Who needs to be reminded what their regularly used apps are? Just create shortcurts and win+type to search for the random stuff you rarely use. I do the same thing in osx with the dock and spotlight or Alfred search, which also has an easy keyboard shortcut. I can open whatever with a few keystrokes.
