Metroid Appreciation Thread - Come Inside and Talk About All Things Metroid

It's odd how the Metroid franchise seems to be sidelined so often by them, I know it's not the best sales wise (anywhere near), but it's still a superb series of games.

Still waiting for Zero Mission to be added to NSO, played Fusion last week on there, still think Fusion and Dread are better than Super, but not sure if thats because my first game was on the GBA (Zero Mission though)

It's probably the third pillar for me: Mario, Zelda, Metroid.

Pretty much everything else from Nintendo is a lower tier IMO

I'd potentially put it above Mario, if not Zelda, in terms of my preference.

For me it's a major part of Nintendos "Holy Trinity". The three franchises that originated back with the Famicom that are still going and still, mostly, knocking it out of the park with every single entry.

I really liked Metroid Dread's bosses - going from "this guy is impossible" to beating them extremely easily once you know their moves and tricks is a really fun experience as a player - usually my first time beating them would also be one where I barely took any damage (as opposed to just scraping through a la Dark Souls).

Prince of Persia TLC also takes Dread's approach, though it's a little easier to cheese them with upgrades and amulets.

Yeah I loved the bosses too. They're basically puzzles to figure out

I suppose the big question is: would you buy a Switch 2 just to play Metroid Prime 4?

I know we’ve had games like Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild as cross-gen titles before but I also think that above anyone else, Nintendo gets how a good launch exclusive will drive sales. TP and BOTW did the business on the Wii and Switch because hardly anyone had the previous consoles; given Switch’s huge numbers you think they’d offer a cut down version on that or dangle it as an upgrade carrot?

At this point I’d be more surprised if it wasn’t a cross gen release, with how long it’s been in the works (even since it was restarted) I just can’t see it not coming out on the current Switch as well as the switch 2, it could be the game to show of how much more capable the Switch 2 is as well, I’d say Legends Z-A could do the same, but with the last few Pokemon games have varied in performance, you never know how GameFreak will adapt, I do think that will be a cross gen game as well as it’s not very often you get a Pokémon announcement without any gameplay at all.

I don’t think it’ll be a system seller either way though, could easily be the best selling Metroid though, if they market it right, showing the difference between the two versions graphics, letting people know it’s backwards compatible, they can start the game on their current Switch and carry on when they get a Switch 2. So it probably will get a single trailer in a direct blowout for the Switch 2 in January 2025 :lol:
