This show is surely too predictable for the WWE not to change it.

I'm still convinced that punk match isn't happening.

That would be quite the bait and switch job, though admittedly nowhere near as bad as what WCW did for 4 consecutive PPVs with Scott Steiner vs. Rick (didn't happen at Road Wild; went 5 minutes at Fall Brawl and ended in a No Contest; went 5 minutes at Halloween Havoc with interference; and then didn't happen again at World War 3).

If you want to play silly buggers with some undercard match that nobody bought the PPV for to begin with then fine, but to do it with a headline match is bang out of order.

I get the feeling that its not happening too but then again I can't imagine punk agreeing to do that in Chicago. I can see wwe thinking it would be a great place to boost his heel status by having people boo him (where hes loved the most) for not wrestling but would punk really agree to that?

Yeah if it wasn't in Chicago i'd have definitely said it wouldn't happen. I suppose though, as much as Punk probably loves performer in his hometown, he may see the bigger picture and that no showing helps whatever long term storyline they have with him move forward (which i assume is a face turn/Heyman breakup). Also in this day and age, doing a no show angle will probably be seen as a ballsy move by WWE..or just straight up false advertising.

Maybe we get 15 minutes of action and then Punk just walks off to the back? I dunno something doesn't seem right, I feel like we would have at least seen Punk on tape by now.

They've done return build-ups like this before, it's just usually been after a more significant period of time. Like Kane Vs Taker at WM20 or Triple H Vs King Booker one Summerslam

Yeah it's such a lackluster build. Youbwould Havre expected him to either have been on tape or at raw in a non wrestling capacity. Last time he had a long injury he sat on commentary in what led to his john cena build. Nothing seems right about it.

I don't think you can really work the crowd by having him not show. Chicago fans are intelligent enough to know that if Punk doesn't show then its a WWE decision. All you will do is piss off 16000 or so fans by basically ripping them off.

I'd hope they have something a bit more creative planned, and to be honest Punk needs to turn face as they have a severe lack of faces that are over. Danielson is the only face in the company (bearing in mind Jericho is part time).

Not in the same way Brock or Rock were but Jericho isn't on long term contracts.

In fact I think he is off in August for a few months again doing Fozzy. Not that I mind. It keeps him fresh for the audience. WWE should circulate the roster a bit more. Give top guys some time off every now and then as it freshens things up. Just a shame Punk was the one out this time!
