According to the spoilers he needed a load of 'help' beating Swagger so maybe he isn't going to be the top guy!

strawberry floats sake Vince

There has to be some type of major plan involved here, I mean what a gooseberry fool show to return on, he wouldnt of left TNA for an ECW spot surely, there must be some underlying plot where he goes to Raw or Smackdown

Swagger declined Christian's request and said he couldn't cut it in the company, which is why he left years ago.

I bet that line was courtesy of Vince McMahon.

I don't watch ECW. Neither do most of the Raw & Smackdown audience. Give it a couple of months, they'll probably have him main eventing Superstars.

To not even use him as a surprise for one of the main shows, let alone PPV, is quite something really.

That's an absolute shocker about Captain Charisma.

A run in and brief spree in the Rumble would be more memorable than months of ECW.

Also:

Source: PWInsider.com

- TNA has released Lance Rock/Hoyt.

- At tonight's TNA iMPACT! tapings, Petey Williams lost a "Loser Leaves Town Match," and that will be his last match with the company as he is being released from his contract.

- More releases are expected.

Not bothered about Lance Hoyt, the guy could never quite get over. But Petey Williams? Surely he has asked for his release, for some reason. They'd be mad to let one of their longest standing and most talented X-Division guys go. I'd watch a Petey match over Consequences Creed, Sheik Abdul Bashir or Matt Morgan any day.

Petey's only been employed as long as he has because of having a cool finisher.

A cool finisher he hardly ever hits, backed up by lots of other cool moves and good fan reaction. I honestly think the guy's a good wrestler, and I thought this was going to be his best run. Sadly not, I guess :(

Having now watched it I have to agree... it was purely Vince sending a message saying that top ring TNA doesen't mean top ring WWE! As much as I like Swagger Christian deserved better than that

There's no way Cage signed back on for an ECW spot. No way in hell. I'm with the "bigger angle" crew here.

TNA hasn't released Petey; they just couldn't come to terms.

You know, like when the biggest rating draw in TNA history by a long-stretch, Gail Kim (I'm being serious) was offered between £12 and £20k for a year's contract. Or, £300k downside in WWE.

It's just a big cash machine.

The Gail Kim situation really sucked, no way they should have let her go. At the end of the day, you're right, it's all about the pennies, and it's a shame TNA can't afford to keep talent around. Gail Kim was a serious loss, they'd built the Knockout division around her, and, as you say, she was a real draw. An absolute pleasure to watch too, and put on some of the best wrestling matches of the year with Awesome Kong. It's mind boggling that Petey Williams would ask for a lot more though, the guy had struggled for the past 2 years, since Team Canada split, to really find his niche. Having had found something with 'What Would Arnold Do?' and Scott Steiner, he got injured, then Steiner got injured, and what could have been the making of Williams fizzled a little.

Guess we can only speculate just now, i've not seen any more details.

They could have at least brought Christian back at No Way Out and possibly hinted it on ECW. Joke.

They could have had a real star return on their hands. It's not as if he isn't a homegrown WWE talent. He still is.

So petty, Vince, so petty.
