I think like Lockdown, there would be the risk that it could become overkill. Then again, the Cell as we all knew it is dead anyway, so it wouldn't make much difference. With the exception of one blip at WrestleMania 15, up until late 2002, you heard Hell in a Cell uttered & you knew you were not only going to get something special, but you were getting a violent match & some form of memorable "stunt". From 2002 onwards, they removed the stunt aspect, but still retained the other two factors. As soon as they introduced the bigger Cell in 2006 & put D-Generation X, Vince & Shane McMahon, & Big Show in there, it's been all downhill ever since. The final death sentence was when they dedicated a whole PPV for it, killed the idea - or indeed the foresight - of booking storylines that needed the Cell structure, & made this match in the confines of modern day 'PG' .

The structure needs to be retired (like it was for the entirety of 2001) & brought back years down the line when they're able & willing to do the match justice. If you want a cage match as a replacement, WCW's War Games would be the perfect fit, & is something nobody has seen since 1998.
