I've been offered and accepted a new job. It's doing the same sort of thing already doing but for more money and much closer to home. A nice end to the first week back in the office. :toot:

Employment Support, I help people find work and stay in work. Currently supporting adults with learning difficulties but im moving back to working with people with mental health conditions.

It's an interesting job and a very positive one. Money is good once you've been doing it a while and it's never dull.

Nope it's NHS based and not job centre based.

Cool cool! I worked on the devolved London version of WHP on the compliance side. We'd managed to do a decent bit of good but were really strong armed by the DWP at times.

Got an interview to do some editorial work on a textbook at university, it'll be property dogsbody stuff pulling together chapters from authors and editing them before they go to the publisher, but it was my career pre-archaeology so hoping I can make a bit of extra cash on the side of the PhD without it being too much stress.

From experience though these things are never as straightforward as they could be.

This is the worst day ever for this to happen for me. Our company are doing a huge Azure migration which is going to take 3 days on top of normal support and now the normal support is completely strawberry floated because people are calling asking why everything is down. strawberry floating microsoft.

To this thread I say

This time I actually have good news, so much so that I feel like I'm living in an alternate reality and I'm just waiting to be somehow stabbed in the back. Partner X who told me a few months back he wasnt sure I was offering enough value to the company to give me the raise I was asking for has spent the last 2 weeks doing basically nothing but sing my praises even in front of everyone else. I've got no idea what changed, I haven't really been changing the way I work but I guess due to the people I've been working with it's gotten back to him more.

He called me today, we've got a new office of people starting - 4 people next Monday in another location. He's asked me to essentially be the manager for the team there. I don't need to go to there but said he'd be perfectly happy to pay for any flights if I ever do want to go over there at any point, but he wants me to be essentially the point of contact between them and our UK office. I won't be doing any training, we have someone who is living out there now to do that. I basically just need to people manage and make sure they're getting what they need to do a good job. He sung my praises so much I was literally speechless. It's like a completely different company now and it's been so busy recently still, but everything is getting better by the day and somehow things have taken a complete 180 and now all of a sudden I'm the golden boy again which isn't something I've been here in forever.

He even apologised to me on the call just before saying what he said to me a few months back was wrong, he just didn't notice just how much I was doing and how well I was doing it too. He kept hinting at the fact I asked for more money as well, so I think if this goes well I should get a raise on the table as well which would be amazing, especially given the current situation!

-

In terms of recently I have been doing a lot to try and fix our mess of a system and also smooth over projects to make it easier for the support desk overall so I guess everything I've been working on has really benefited me and my prospects. I just still can't believe it. I literally never got praise in the same way before.

This doesn't happen often. Sounds like a decent dude.

Big congrats on the management position - that 100% needs to come with a significant payrise. Also you should deffo take him up on his offer of flights, always good to make the effort to meet people you're managing irl.
