Different year this year and currently up to 20km a week but my achilles is still bad. Hope to get back to at least 30/40km a week next year.

That's insane! Not surprised you were going through trainers fast! Mine are getting close to needing replacing.

I have hit my 100km goal for the month. I cut 7 minutes off my first to my last 10k time this month, getting it down to 51:19 today. Not only has my pace been improving for all of my runs, regardless of distance, but I've actually beaten my 10k personal best three times this week! I'm happy to have a few days of rest ahead of me now as my legs really need it. The dream had always been to get my pace below 5 min per km and I'm closer to that than ever before.

Looks good! I am getting close to needing a new pair of runners. Today is my last rest day before I go for 100 again next month. I've actually missed running for the last few days, but my legs have no doubt benefited from a rest.

I have a confession to make… I’ve just run a marathon after a “couch to marathon in 30 days” training plan.

Had a marathon booked as part of a weekend away abroad with the missus. This was booked after knee operation 1 and before I knew I needed knee operation 2. Got the ok to start jogging again (post op 2) in September but didn’t get going due to little injury niggles and issues (bad back) but had been keeping up some general daily rowing and walking throughout this period.

Everything felt good at the start of November so just focussed on running lots of shorter runs and building up the mileage (covered around 250-275 miles in November). Furthest I ran was one 16 mile run.

Had considered dropping to the half marathon option initially but as the race was abroad and part of the holiday wanted to do the full distance as long as I could finish within the cut offs. Was slightly apprehensive at the start but set out at a steady pace and managed to run the entire race and very happy to finish it in 3.45 but feeling absolutely battered today (stairs are a struggle!).

I’m carry an extra 2 stone of weight following a long period of inactivity and know there’s a long way to go to get in decent shape and fitness again but delighted to get this under my belt as the first stepping stone back.

That's awesome.

I may need key hole surgery on my rights knee early next year.
What was yours issue and what did you do as I'm really apprehension about it.

Well done on a great achievement Avon.

And here I was pleased I managed my first ever sub 30min 5k today!

I went 2min faster than my previous personal best which I think tells me I’ve just not been pushing myself hard enough in the past. The fact this was the first time I properly tried to do it and did so quite comfortably (although I was shattered) is almost quite annoying. I think 25min would be a super tough goal for me but maybe one I could shoot for if I stick with it in 2023. After today I’m now very confident I’ll hit my end of year goal and manage 35km in the rest of this month, which for me would be amazing. Might need some warmer gear though :dread:

Hey there, keyhole surgery both times. First was to repair some worn cartilage and the second was to repair a torn meniscus muscle (same knee different issue). Suspect I tried to comeback too quickly the first time so was very cautious with the rehab second time round until the knee felt 100%.

Hope you get to the bottom of the issue quickly and get past the “hanging around waiting for definitive news” phase.

Thanks very much

Did you know the issue before surgery or was it a case of having to go in, see what the issue is and fix it?

No, wasn’t aware of the specific issue at first but had experienced lots of knee niggles leading to a downward spiral in my running and ultimately a DNF at a race when I realised my knee just wasn’t right.

Thankfully, I had the benefit of private healthcare and got a referral, leading to an MRI scan leading to a surgical procedure.

If I knew I had an issue which doctor/rest/physio didn’t sort then I would be tempted to pay for an MRI scan myself just so I knew what the issue was.

I have had the MRI and it shows bruising to the knee.
None of the physio excercise are working. I'm basically no better or no worst. The consultant said there could be something else that wasn't showing on the MRI, so worried they won't be able to fix it.

Sounds like it's worth going private especially if the NHS cannot determine the cause of the issue and investigative works are required prior to remedial.

I have Bupa through work, had MRI and currently going through physio with January 10 being the day they decide to do keyhole if no improvement.

Hope it gets sorted finally, you have been injured for ages now.

Talking of which I am still getting Achilles pain but has died off a bit more even though it seemed to be worse after returning from holiday. Weirdly this weekend it hurt more when I was setting up parkrun (walking) then it did during my race on Sunday.

Actually came 4th of 107 runners although it was a fun run im still taking it. I was 40 seconds behind 3rd and 1:08 ahead of 5th. 28 minutes dead for. 6km isn’t bad considering but a long way off what I could have done and maybe sneak that 3rd place. 1st and 2nd smashed it in around 23 minutes.

I got bought a Samsung smart watch for christmas. I usually use the free version of runkeeper on my phone, but it's been gooseberry fool the last few times I've used it (not tracked my activity), and there isn't a watch version of it available, so can anyone reccomend a good tracking app for running that I can have on both devices please? Only needs basic functionality as I just want to track distance and pace to compare and see how I'm doing.

Thanks

Strava app will be compatible with the watch I reckon, you should be able to link them.
