Well alright then, from all the reviews I've read the Y510p seems to be a decent performer for the money (£1000, which is the absolute maximum I can afford) and it looks the part too. To be honest there are so many different laptops out there, coupled with my low knowledge on laptop components, it's pretty bewildering when shopping around.

I dont know what they are like for playing games, but Id wager not great. They are generally tippy top business machines and portable workstations.

Well by all accounts the Y510p is designed more with games in mind than a standard business laptop, so I'm sure it'd be more than ample for playing Football Manager and the odd RTS game.

Reet grand, I tell thee.

Also has an "ultrabay" that enables you to add in a second graphics card or hard-drive, so should the need arise (which I doubt) then there's always that to fall back on.

fake edit: I'm convincing myself to buy this, aren't I?

Ultrabay sounds like marketing gooseberry fool that'll probably be unsupported, to me. Unless its just a thunderbolt port.

So a while back I had some infections issues on my PC and I had avast moved them all to chest, one of these things was the folder for my icon data so now I have some of my programs with their icons missing when I get rid of the desktop shortcut. The icon data folder got moved by avast, I'm not really sure what I do, do I just select the restore option on the virus chest? Or do I extract it and try and find the problem manually? I've never done this before so I don't really know.

EDIT: Never mind. i'm visiting home this weekend so I'll just get my pc sorted while there.

Oh God, I just calibrated the colour settings on my monitor which all went well, but I then did that thing where you pick which text looks better and it has changed all my fonts to some horrible looking thing. My web browser looks hideous. How can I set it back to the default font?

Hoping someone can help me. Can't seem to update Intel Drivers they always fail and quit out of the install. Been like this since day 1 as far as I can remember with Intels Drivers (They don't even update through Windows Update) and thinking not having up to date Intel Drivers is affecting game performance even if I have the latest Nvidia Drivers. Please help me

Potentially in the market for a replacement SSD. Nothing wrong with mine, I just bought it when they were still quite expensive, so only have 128GB of storage. Looking at the Crucial M500 on Ebuyer. 480GB for £175 (the 128GB M4 cost me £150 in December 2012). Is that a good a SSD?

Or maybe a 240/256GB if it's no more than £100. Sick of having to free up space but can't go back to a regular HDD.

The Samsung 840 EVO range out-performs the Crucial M500 for not much more: http://ssd.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Sa ... 1594vs1551

Write speeds on the Crucial M500 are fairly average which is where it falls short.

I was under the impression you should always buy a Samsung or Intel SSD.

Guys I'm looking to use a TV as a monitor. Do I need to look out for much other than input lag?

Supposedly there's issues with reading text if you have a massive tv but that's really just a case of resolution rather than something to check with the tv itself

Yeah reading text isn't a huge deal as I'm thinking of dual monitoring, using the TV mostly for playing games / streaming video.
