Ahh right, cheers. I've uninstalled drivers; then got it onto new drivers after making sure removing all old drivers just in case. (Oddly system went to 294.60, not 301.xx but didn't know had to do custom installiton for clean wipe of old drivers). Fraps also loaded correctly first time, last times it was saying Direct 9X was having problems.

Hopefully all's good for now... thanks for help so far

I think the reason they overstate power requirements is because of the abundance of crap cheapo PSU's that can't deliver anything like they claim.

Hello computer men.

So my hard drive's died, looking at getting an SSD to replace it. That Crucial mentioned earlier's gone up to £85, still a good buy?

Also, I haven't done this before, replaced the master drive I mean. Is there anything I should be taking into consideration before paying for this? I can't remember the motherboard type (type?) off hand, but the thing was put together over five years ago now. Will the SSD just slot (slot?) into anything?

And, how to I get the important stuff from my old drive onto the new one? I mean Windows. I don't know if I have an installation disc. I don't know.

I don't know.

It should fit fine as long as your computer has SATA connections which it's bound to unless it's a good ten year old. You are gonna need a Windows installer mind.

If you can, look for an SSD with a PCI-E interface. Connecting them by SATA really doesn't give you the full benefit of having them.

Is PCI Express performance really noticeable enough to be worth the price premium though? Looking at Dabs.ie the 128GB M4 is €110 while the 120GB Revodrive 3 is €330.

Not really.

Download and run Speccy so you can find out your motherboard model. I'm assuming it has SATA ports if it was built in the last five years. The process for installing a SSD should be as simple as unplugging the connectors of your old hard drive and plugging them back into the SSD.

What version of Windows were you using?

And apologies for the unforseen delay but the new build guide is rapidly incoming.

Excellent news, it's about time I bought a computer which can play games made after 2002.

How many chapters did we have left? I think we were pretty near the end.

Speccy looks a bit useful. Might be difficult to run while my PC's still refusing to boot up, but I'll have a wee go on it once it's up and running again. I'm using Windows XP. I've got a box of things I'll have a rumage around in later, might find the installer there.

I ended up getting this Corsair. I use Corsair RAM, so thought they might live quite happily together.

Thanks guys!

You should look at the Fractal Design Define R3 Arctic White too. The cost and performance should be about the same but the Fractal should be quieter because it has noise absorbing material along the insides and a door.

ooo that is nice, don't know which one to pick now  :fp:

But the fractal doesn't seem to be in stock on ebuyer so I think that's gona influence my decision.

It's in stock at Overclockers.co.uk.

With next day delivery the price works still works out cheaper than what it would cost on eBuyer with free delivery.

There are some other nice white cases that you might be interested in:
