I can't see them not releasing it on Switch now. If they do have new hardware next year it'll be dual release i reckon.

I reckon the launch trailer was probably nerfed because it had references to Princess/'Queen' Zelda and 'Tears of the Kingdom' might be a bit on the nose right now.

The time between BoTW and this one is going to be around six years, which is the same gap as Skyward Sword to BoTW.

It's one of the longest gaps between games (New games at least, not including remasters and re-releases) we've had for Zelda.

So yeah I'm kinda in the same boat as Cyborg. I really don't want to load this game up and find out it's the same BoTW map with some floaty islands over it. Six years is more than enough for them to design a new overworld map and fill it with stuff to do.

I want BoTW 2, not BoTW 1.5.

Heard an interesting theory on IGN Nintendo's podcast that the title refers to 'tears' (e.g. tearing paper) and that perhaps we'll have a multiverse-style storyline with 'tears' that lead to past worlds. In that case, what we've seen so far is actually the Skyward Sword world.

Would love that but my worry is that it's the BotW world with a few floaty rocks, six years later.

It must be fairly likely it is just the same world map with the sky sections?

They may be thematic differences (though if it's a direct sequel, presumably not much time in-world has passed) but it's going to be broadly the same map.

I also have a feeling you might just warp to the sky, rather than have the freedom to just soar up. Ideally, you'd get a bird like in Skyward Sword and be able to call this up from the ground and manually fly up yourself. I think it'll be warping up and gliding down though.

ah but what you have to remember is that the first year or so of that was spent making the botw dlc and this game did start of as botw dlc as well so it most likely started after that

I believe the Japanese title is explicitly about tears as in crying.

I have no doubt it's going to be great. I have a sealed copy of BotW (Switch this time) sat by me, which I am hoping to start in the near future, so May sounds fine to me.

Yeah. This is the most "samey" a Zelda follow up (maybe the DS games) has really looked I think. Honestly if this was 4/5 years ago and that trailer dropped and it was the final DLC bit I dont think anyone would bat an eyelid (I think I complained about this last time tbh). The final shot really looks like a barely remixed Hyrule. Death Mountain, where the Castle would be, the place with the mushroom things, the canyon with the bridge and windmills. All roughly in the same place. So far Tears just hasnt excited me the way I would expect a new Zelda to. Even the art clearly had an army of bokoblins and frame rate killers. Maybe the glider at the end is a sign that you simply wont have to travel Hyrule in the same way again. Which at least could mean its not so tedious. Looks like you could potentially surf it?

I'm actually far more interested in the abstract and more surreal sky elements so far.
