TBH, DML I think you should just do a Team Games Guru fully rather than the solo one. The team element was really good.

Call it something else if you want though.

All things aside, good contest. I'd second the notion of a team-based spin-off, and I think that the tasks were broadly speaking good (although StayDead woz robbed and I'd have a good whine over the bluffing task).

I'm considering doing a big gaming quiz in a couple of months time actually.

It's hard to really find too many faults- most mine were with the pointless cancellation and subsequent task which I've said more than enough about.

What I thought would've been quite cool (and a possible work around to time issues in the future) is for the Final Four to face off in Semi Finals head-to-head, then a Final head-to-head.

Also there should be a 'Best Rookie' award, added retroactively. :shifty: ;)

Next yeah (heh), do this gooseberry fool in the chat or on a mumble. Also, stop pretending you're the banker.

That has happened before in GGGC III. A long time now admittedly.

It would be fun to see a Teams or Doubles guru contest. I also liked the idea of accumulating points rather than granting eliminations. That could have been continued through the individual stages here.

Although I didn't make the knockouts, I think holding the quickfire on different technology does seem sensible.

The boardgame challenge was very good for making the contestants work hard at something. Getting through that round felt like a real achievement. It really makes you engage with the contest and wan the title.

Welcome to my future Guru Eggheads team, whoever won. I err, haven't looked at the thread yet.

And StayDead, you beat how many people to get as far as you did? You did phenomenally! Ok, a bit of chance let you down at the end, but anyone could have slipped up in the vault, like anyone could have been on Team Rocket and anyone could have tried to guess one too many of the Scramble. You did amazing.

And Traj. You are GGGC's shining star, you bring so much light to the game, it was a shame you got so hung up in the final man, you'll always be one of the contest's strongest players.

Or team strawberry floating Mysterio. Me and Banjo got strawberry floated over first, mayne.

Well done, Dally. We'll make a good team if DML does ever decide to do GGGC Eggheads.

This will probably be an unpopular shout, but I do think the Board Game task shouldn't really have a place in the competition.

I mean, I've played games since I was about four, but I've never touched one of those board games and don't have any interest in them. I would have been screwed if I'd have had to write about one. It's not really gaming either - it's an offshoot, like cosplay, anime and all that stuff. As it stood, it rewarded knowledge of board game mechanics and board game design, not gaming knowledge. The task itself was great; the subject matter, I feel, was too niche.

Also, I would have had The Bank Job task earlier, as I don't think such a huge element of chance should decide the winner (the "Dual" format with chips worked better, I feel). You could have answered loads of questions right, but it was all largely luck as to whether you left the vault.

It was a good task, though probably a better semi-final due to the chance elements.

And, of course, the Pointless one needs work before it reappears.

They are my only moans. Cheers to DML for running it once more. I especially like the team elements and always like to see that in the opening rounds.

More KOTH next time.

And Tragic needs shooting for his behaviour during the final, as he was acting like a petulant child.

I agree with you on literally every single point, especially so having skimmed through the final.

Commiserations to Staydead by the way, shafted so strawberry floating bad.

Will I get remembered for being the most shafted player ever in GGGC? I had literally the worst luck in that entire thing.

The only thing I disagree with in this post is an immediate return of the team format. The reason it felt so refreshing this year because the last time it was integrated was in GGGC VI, some four years ago. Next year the contest should go back to its original format as by then it will have been two and a half to three years since the last time that was done. In addition, this year we saw certain individuals denied qualification due to how their team fared, i.e. Corazon is the obvious example. Whilst he didn't finish top of his group, he still outscored two or three other players who advanced, which I didn't like, but I accept as a consequence of the team based start.

As bad as your luck was, I don't think anyone will get as screwed as Jay did last year (and nor should they).

I'd love to see more tasks like the board game one. It's creative and it actually challenges somebody's passion and understanding of what makes a game great, and capturing that in a different way. I certainly prefer it to say, the Pictures round where a lot of it was a case of who can utilise Google better than the others.

True, true, Drummy.

A few players qualified purely because of their team doing so well (I think I was the 13th contestant when ranked though, so I can't complain).

*Cough* We could do the World Cup format next...

And obviously abolish all writing rounds - or at least non-concept entries - and terrible flash games (or bring back Color Wars...).

EDIT - What happen to Jay last year? Didn't Cora get controversially reinstated due to a DML twist too?

GG Dala. Team Drumstick FTW.

Good thing Tragic didn't win.

Final seemed to easy. I mean even I knew the answer to many of the questions. And I'm not great. Also I don't think the format suited a final. Or even the competition. Too much luck involved with the box picking. A straight up head-to-head first to a certain number of points would have been enough and fairer.

Other than that (and the Boardgame round which has no place at all in such a competition) it was a good GGGC.

That closing ceremony  :fp:

Oh wow, thanks Dala. Only you and Plasticcoated like me. Everyone else genuinely hates me so it makes me feel better to know the Guru is on my side.

Congratulations.
