To be fair, it's based off the user rankings of the site like most of their ranking articles. Can't complain about it since the order isn't dictated by the one who put the video together.

It's a decent list, would swap out positions #3 and #1 personally but that's just down to taste.

Actually a very solid list, if I could move one game, it'd be Scarlet/Violet above Ultra Sun/Moon, I still think SV would be far higher up the rankings if it wasn't so laggy at times and looked ever so slightly nicer, playing through them again has made me realise that they're too big (map size) for Pokemon though, no idea how they actually compare, but Legends Arceus felt a much better size, but that might have been due to it being split into 5 areas?. The top 5 are very solid though, nostalgia alone would make the number 5 game be number 1 though.

Seeing all those GB/GBC/GBA games though  The memories just come rushing right back, if we get a Pokemon Presents in August again and these aren't announced, they just won't be coming till the Switch 2 is out, which is just annoying

They're a couple of my favourite battle themes.

The range of soda pop Pokémon plushies are being made available in the West, with the original Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle up first.

Here are a few snaps of the wee Pokémon. WARNING These are cute. Too cute. I'm wondering if they may be illegal?

They're around £17 each. I'm not a huge fan of Pokémon but, dang, these look good.

pokemon black and white remake could come to switch 2 and could have 2 stories in it once you beat first story.

then your on the second story and there was pokemon black and white ds sequel.

A complete generation 5 remake - as in a proper remake - would be such a great thing. Given enough care, an open world Unova would be brilliant. Not entirely confident Game Freak could make it happen, though.

I do wonder if they'd find it harder to transition a game from routes to open world, which is why we got Legends Arceus as well as BDSP, with how good Gen 5 is, I'd take a remaster rather than a remake, especially if they keep the pixel art  If they want to do an open world Unova game, wait till a Legends game set in that region.

Anyone hopeful of another Pokemon Presents in August anyway? If we don't get anything about older games coming to the Switch then, its not happening on the Switch, probably not the Switch 2 either :(

See, I've been thinking about that. If you want to translate routes to an open world, it cannot be done literally. You'd have barely any distance between towns otherwise. But you can take the feel for those routes to map out the connections between towns. A winding path to the north-east. Easily done. Have a long curve starting from the western exit of Accumula Town heading north. When pointing to the east, that path winds its way toward Striaton City. The east of this path is flat grassland. To the west is a forest, with that first long curve going in and out of it. That forest connects to the lower half of Route 3, with its lake. Of course, just like the routes need expanding, so would the towns - but not to the point they're unrecognisable.

Unova is split into very distinct sections, making it easy to keep people on track rather than have them explore the furthest reaches of the region before they've even completed the first Gym. Even if roadblocks aren't used, those sections make designing the open world for it a lot easier than somewhere like Johto.

Thinking a bit more on an open world Unova, there is one part I feel will be difficult to get right. Castelia City. This is a big city, filling up the entire bottom of the central peninsula. And being open world, there's no shortcuts. All parts of the city need to be designed and explorable. The trick they used in the Black and White games ain't gonna cut it. It's possible to replicate that, shrinking the central peninsula so it comes to a curving point, but I feel that's doing a major disservice to the region when it comes to translating it to an open world.

There is one cheat possible to pull off, however. Castelia is based on Manhattan. Manhattan has Central Park. The only thing Castelia has is a small plaza to connect all the streets together. It would still be possible to keep that plaza on the north of the park, connecting the two streets that outline the park. The two outer streets of those original four would lead to new parts of the desert between Castelia and Nimbasa.

I do think it could be done, some of your ideas are really good, I'm just not sure Game Freak want to do all the added work to remake a game from routes to open world, which is why we never got a gen 4 remake in the style of Sword and Shield, when they can just remaster them and do open world variants of regions from scratch.

Yeah, I do wish Game Freak could produce something truly great for once. Considering Sand Land was pretty great in terms of... everything, I want to see what ILCA are capable to making within the Pokémon world. Get them back for some proper Black and White remakes.
