I'm disappointed to see on various forums that so many Liverpool fans seem unwilling to give Martinez any sort of chance. He wouldn't be my first choice (why'd you have to go to Moscow Unai) but I think he should at least be given a chance.

John Ruddy is out of Euro 2012 with a broken finger. Jack Butland, your time is now.

He's been mentioned for nearly every managerial vacancy since he left Charlton

He said he's going to take months off to recharge. It'll still be a year before he's probably back at a club.

Be happy with Martinez. It doesn't look like many other, higher profile managers want the job.

Sepp Blatter wants an alternative to penalites

Fifa president Sepp Blatter has asked Bayern Munich honorary president Franz Beckenbauer to come up with an alternative to the "tragedy" of penalty shoot-outs.
Beckenbauer is head of the Football Task Force 2014, a group designed to recommend rule changes.
"Football can be a tragedy when you go to penalty kicks," Blatter said.
"Football should not go to one to one, when it goes to penalty kicks football loses its essence."
He added: "Perhaps Franz Beckenbauer with his football 2014 group can show us a solution, perhaps not today but in the future."

Well someone wanted Bayern to win.

I rather like the ludicrous idea back in the day about each team losing a player every few minutes in extra time until there's a goal.

Has to be given the same chance as Dalglish had, just a shame he wont be by "knowledgeable" Liverpool fans.

Why?

Last 4 seasons at Wigan:
2009: Finished 11th (Last season of Steve Bruce)
2010: 16th
2011: 16th
2012: 15th

He's flavour of the month, I'm afraid. This time last year Owen Coyle would have been on the 'shortlist', and noone is clamouring for his name now.

Wigan are not as good as Liverpool though so those stats aren't relevant.

There already is an alternative.
Win the game before it gets to penalties.

Quite clearly, the team that plays the best football should win.

Only fair really.

Just scrap all knock-out competitions. Problem solved.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

They could just keep on playing until someone scores? They could be there for hours though.

Newcastle have signed Bienvenue Amalfitano from Reims on a free transfer. He can play both in central midfield and out wide.
