You seem to be the only one who doesn't understand the word. How does 'to have earned as a right by one's actions' work in favour of your argument?

Through the creation of chances. If you work more hours, you deserve more pay than someone who works less, no?

Not if you aren't any good at your job

How do you define good at your job? I'd say the guy out working the shop floor is doing more for the money than the bloke sitting in the office watching him.

Ah but what if the guy in the office worked twice as many hours? He'd deserve more money right, despite doing strawberry float all?

The reason England are shite is an inferiority complex. One that your teams keep showing in setting out their stall in Europe. The only difference is when it comes to the national team, you don't have the Spaniards and the Ivorians and the Italians and Brazilians to bail you out.

Ya'll are real easy to wind-up.

But we we're talking about club football and now you've changed the debate because you were wrong and wont admit it. You've now added another element in an attempt to change the argument to one in your favour.

Engalnd are pish - no one's going to argue against that. Spain, however, were massive underachievers for years with quality players and have only just come to the fore. A huge inferiority complex in their case for years.

Take this one to the euros thread. We're still talking about the worthy winners of tonight's game.

I think you misunderstand - I'm not trolling, you do get worked up about things very quickly. Just look at the last few pages - it's descended from one person asking my opinion to three or four rushing to take shots while I reply.

What's with the Spanish thing, by the way?

He's having a pointless and unwarranted dig at English clubs and the national team, I'm only stooping to his level.

It was a reaction to Ginga talking about the English have an inferiority complex, he didn't just "come out with it".

You came in and said it was undeserved. Inviting the scorn upon yourself.

So what? That's a very lame way to end any discussion.

This argument/beat-down isn't about England or Scotland, why bring all that nonsense into it, Ginga?

It's just the way he (and lots of Barcelona fans) talk about that style of play. Yes, it's fantastic football and some of the play is genius, but I get so bored watching it. Nearly as bored as the people trying to explain that it's the elite and superior style of football, and anything different means you deserve to lose.

Exactly. It's elitist, holier-than-thou snobbery, and it really grates.

Really disappointing that people (Ginga) would say Chelsea don't deserve it.

It's as if defense isn't a thing, like these pros don't spend their entire careers learning how to stop other players from scoring goals. Football is about attack and defense, neither of these disciplines is more football that the other. Chelsea defended really well, they scored when they needed to and the kept their heads to put their penalties away. They didn't cheat, the ref didn't cock up.

They deserved to win, there's no two ways about it.

It's not unwarranted, I was commenting on the general attitude of the media. It's "Chelsea are European Champions! Our league's brilliant, English spirit wins it! We did everything perfectly!"

It just seems so fallacious, especially with the money spent to get Chelsea into that competition, with the irony of finishing 6th, and I believe that level of ignorance is having an impact on the English team. It happens wherever big money overtakes domestic ideals, the national teams suffer. It happened in Italy and Spain and with Germany. I think it's just England's turn but as long as people think that continue to believe that the only thing that matters is results, you'll continue to disappear down that hole.

If you think I'm just England bashing then I've not explained myself properly but my erratic topic of posting has a lot to do with the bizarre replies.

Ginga has succeeded where the UN peace envoys would have failed. He has united the Liverpool, United and Chelsea fans in agreement.

Kudos.

Where diplomacy fails, fuckwittery can sometimes win. Deservedly so.

I don't think they "deserved it" but I don't begrudge them it. I do like how I'm made out to be in the minority with this one - perhaps on GRcade I am, but that's certainly not the general opinion elsewhere.
