Euro Football Stats ‏@EuropeanStats
2 - Martin Kelly made 18 more successful tackles (42) than Gary Cahill (24) in 17 FEWER PL apps last season. Selected.

Well there it is. He's a better defender and no doubt about it. :simper:

Completely ignoring the massive difference in quality of opposition. :simper:

I actually assumed for some reason that only players on the standby list could be called up - hence why Kelly got the nod ahead of Rio for example  I would've preferred Rio to get the call. He's seemingly put his injury woes behind him this season and he's got the international experience - I don't think he possess that much less pace than say Cahill. He's claimed Rio was left out for footballing reasons but that's obviously bullshit. Would be nice if Hodgson could just come out and say the truth.

I don't really understand standby lists being made public.

Very sad to see Dirk leave but he'll be 32 soon. Looking forward to seeing his replacement.

That's a list of Kelly's PL appearances. I don't see where Cahill was playing against many better sides than Utd, Spurs and Arsenal.

jamcc wrote:As I've said before, as one of my housemates suspects, Richards must have a serious attitude problem. He's a very good right back but it would make sense in terms of him being dropped by City and not picked by England.

Richards didn't get dropped, he got injured and Zabaleta stayed in the team. He also captained the side when Kompany was out this season.

The story about him refusing to go on the standby list was a Mirror "exclusive" so it's unlikely to be true.
