Regardless of how content creators come across on camera strawberry float all of them, they're all people who started off humble, got rich and then essentially just do what they do to keep themselves richer.
I watch a few Japanese youtubers and Trash Taste; but even when watching I find myself recoiling sometimes at how clearly out of touch with reality these people are now. I tried watching some big streamers at one point and when I started to realise these people were making more in donations in a day than I made in a year it just made me feel awful.
I think this is a huge reason why I lose interest in the bigger youtubers. The love in what they are doing just dies as it becomes a day job. It can also be weird watching the general behaviour of the audience. It can sometimes feel exploitative and a bit cultish.
Welcome to capitalism. We were having a discussion about this the other day, since the internet has become widely more accessible and used on phones and such it’s just become so commercial/fiscal based.
Of course money was always being made, those of us that remember it in the 90’s and such will confirm that but even as recently as 2007-9 I don’t recall it being this exploitive or obsessed with ads, clicks and such.
YouTube used to be great, then Google got it and it became all about ad revenue which changed the way vlogs, bloggers did their videos to maximise their own income or careers.
The same way anytime an app comes out or new social platform it evidently rushes 100% to make money out of you or adverts. It’s destroyed local newspapers online with Reachmedia isn’t? No idea how anyone reads those articles with about 20’ads in them
