We could then get UT running and troubleshoot for a bit if needed. I don't think I ever actually played UT99 online back in the day because every time I did I'd have to download a new map or skin or whatever - it just never seemed to work!
Happy to do either though - I would need the UT RAR archive if that's okay.
Yeah I'm trying to keep it relatively simple.
Luckily UT is one of the easier one's I've found to get running.
The RAR I've got has the gog version and the patch. You just install the game, patch it and that's it ready to go.
UT99 is now basically run by the OldUnreal community at this point. Epic gave them the codebase so they've been maintaining and updating it since.
The downloading thing I quite liked. It meant that no matter what server I joined it would get me whatever maps they had in rotation as well as any mutators or mods it required.
As far as I know I'll only be using the vanilla maps initially, but there are thousands or good maps out there which I would like to explore at some point. Plus custom models in UT are great fun. Stomping around as a 40K Space Marine or Obi Wan Kenobi from PM is great fun.
I would like anyone who gets the archive (I've already sent it to a couple of people) to try it out when they can and give the various game modes and mutators a try. Obviously let me know if you have any issues joining online matches.
I'll be testing my UT99 MP server at some point this week (Probably Friday night), which will give us control over what we get to play and when, rather than some random public server. Though we can always use them if my server doesn't work out.
For UT99 newcomers, it has fantastic single player support, so you can play all the maps and modes against AI, either using the Single Player Tournament or by creating practice sessions (Single Player offline matches, I spent 99% of my offline UT time with this).
Oh and remember to check your control setup and character set up.
Personally I'd like to do UT next week and then do Quake 2 on the next rotation, but it's up to you guys as well if that suits.
