Make sure you've correctly set your character up as well.
There are pre-built Light and Dark side builds that have different abilities active or not.

Could be the character you've been playing only has the basic ones with points in them.
But more likely it's the keybinds as you've already noticed.

Well, it's not 100% done but I've reached the playtesting portion of my Quake map. :D

I would greatly appreciate anyone giving it a shot and letting me know what you think.

Assuming you're using the official Quake Remaster, extract the zip file into the "rerelease" folder of the installation (Make sure it retains the folder structure or it won't work) and run CheekyQuake.bat.
It should launch you straight into the map.

Notes:
It's not been balanced for any specific difficulty level so it DOES skew harder in places.
One of the main things I used the progs_dump engine mod for was to integrate "breakables" into the game. I have used them quite a bit so feel free to batter in and bash stuff up. Tends to be wood, but there are others.
If you're finding the later fights a challenge there's usually something hidden nearby that makes it a bit easier. :shifty:

If anyone streams it let me know and I'll watch along, or catch a VoD! :D

EDIT: Just to be clear this will not run on OG Quake. It has to be the remaster or one of the modern source ports.

Cheers man.

A lot of it comes from the texture pack I used which is nice and hi-res.

I also made a point of trying to limit myself to "logical" lights, so 99% of the light sources in the game are torches, flames, candles and other things in the world. There are only a very small handful of lights that appear from nowhere, usually to lighten up some of the darker spots where I want you to notice something. Places where a torch or something wouldn't make much sense. The sun also casts some lovely shadows, so trying to create shapes that would be both convincing in the setting, while still making interesting shadows and architecture was great fun.

I will load it up and will jump on it next time you pop by the stream and I'm doing nothing important!

Which could very well be in about 2 hours time!

Looks really good, very excited to give it a try!

Not far off sharing my Doom level as well, just need to give it a bit of a detail pass

I'm looking forward to it man. :D

If anyone is interested in Quake mapping, the maps folder in the zip has a "src" folder with the .map file for the level. You can open that in Trenchbroom, so you can load up the map and see how it was built.
You won't see the textures, but you can see all the geometry, entities etc that make up the game.

This doesn't seem to do anything. An extra steam window maybe popped up for a split second once but then never again, even with running as an admin.

"-game CheekyQuake +map DevSP03" just returns the prompt "unknown command game"

However typing in game cheeky quake and then map devsp03 does get it running, although the console returns a lot of stuff like "couldn't spawn health vial". Anywho we can check it out later on!

Yeah its not installed properly bu the sound of it. I'll check it out when I've had my dinner.

Give me 30 minutes and I'll have an answer.

Your Quake\Rerelease folder should look like this.

If it does running the .bat file "should" launch the map. If not then it's like you said, in the console type"game cheekyquake" then "map devsp03".
I get the health vial message in the console as well, that's normal as it still loads them in from the mod.

See you in 25 minutes or so.

Thanks for the playthrough Aayl.

I now know how everyone felt when I would break their Mario levels week after week.

The way you play is very different to how I planned it in my head. So going forward expect to be locked into rooms and forced to activate encounters in the order I want them activated.

Also helped me pick up on some of the things I have missed or not considered, so I've got a page of A4 with notes scribbled down.

So yeah guys the level is more breakable than I expected. I'll probably do an update for it over the weekend with some of the tweaks I've made.

I'm still interested in how the rest of you get on with it in the meantime, so let me know. :)

On a Jedi Academy related note, the game manual can be found here:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_O9s7h ... sp=sharing

It'll talk you through the various sabre techniques and styles. It's surprisingly deep, even if it does often descend into waggling lightsabres in peoples faces till they fall over.

My wife's working away tomorrow so I'll be on as soon as the boy's asleep.

Yeah great fun tonight guys, I've finally figured out the server config for Duel mode so I'll integrate some more of them into the rotation.

If you want I can take out the CTF maps. They're a mixed bag, but it's up to you fine people.

Me finishing dead last in my final match:
Image

Enjoyed that, thanks for the games. I don't know what happened in the last match, but I started out with a couple of lightsaber kills, and then wasn't able to kill a single person for the rest of the match, like I wasn't doing damage at all.

I suspect this might be just a good with a controller, and that would be much better for force power quick access, so I may try that out before next week.
