I don't think bringing back Wii U functionality makes any kind of business sense so I absolutely wouldn't rule out Nintendo doing it.

At least we'd finally be able to play all those wii u games that are languishing without a switch port!

i know you're talking about the dual screen aspect

I mean if they did that, they absolutely would port Nintendoland, Starfox Zero, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse......

Some manufacturers have been able to touch the console but not see it as was in a black box.

Nintendoland is still probably the best use of the Wii U gamepad. Absolutely loved that game.

Wonder if they’ll bring back a second screen that can act as a clamshell design for when it’s not being used? Can start porting DS and 3DS games now they’ve run out of Wii U games

Joking aside….. they could put older DS Pokemon games on there when they get their act together.

I'd be surprised if they change the core elements of the design radically. I think they have such a winning concept they really don't need to.

I’d be up for them keeping the exact same form factor alongside a second screen that acts as a cover, even if it’s an optional extra, then they could easily sell DS/3DS games on the eshop without having to make changes to make them work in a single screen again.

The return of Nintendoland is the dream  honestly that was a ton of fun at the Wii U’s launch, the Mario Chase mini game and the Luigi’s Mansion one I spent hours with friends playing.

ZombiU was the best multiplayer experience I had on the Wii U, well local co op that is, Mario Kart 8 was the best, when I actually joined in the MK Monday evening sessions that is

They seem to have become a bit more business-minded and practical, as opposed to wild-idea-fuelled, under Furakawa. Not sure if that's good or not, but in this instance I'll take "just" another Switch.

The Switch 3 had better be some absolutely mad flop though. :capnscotty:

Yeah I do agree with that. Not just with the way they've approached the Switch but how they're using their IPs in other markets.

There will probably be some small surprises in terms of functionality for Switch 2 but I don't think there will be anything crazy.

Mobapad, another Switch accessory manufacturer has posted some alleged Switch 2 details

1. The Bluetooth chip of Switch 2 still supports existing Joy-Con and Pro controllers, and still features HD vibration (ALPS dual-axis linear motor).
2. Switch 2 has backwards compatibility with Switch 1 cartridges, but Switch 2 cartridges will be different and won't fit on a Switch 1.
3. The new joycons are larger and are magnetically attached to the console with an electromagnet. The SL and SR buttons are metallic now, and there's a new button behind each joycon

location where the button is

and a new button below the home button on the right joycon

4. The dock still has an USB-C port and will also support 4K image output.
5. The new kickstand also has a damping bracket on the back for improved angle adjustment.
6. The screen is bigger, up to 8 inches and the resolution is upgraded to 1080p.

As always, grain of salt etc… but larger joycons are a must this time round, with a new layout as well (Right stick placement especially) also interested about extra buttons, what could the one under the home button be for?

Those links aren't working. Just gives me a 403 Forbidden page.

Looks like they’ve been pulled, it just showed a current gen joycon with a circle showing where the new buttons are.

I managed to get them working. Just need to remove the "@1192w.avif" from the end of each link.

1080p seems fine for a handheld.
I wonder if games in docked mode will try 4k or go for 1440p?

Switch can barely do 720p/1080p so I think 4k is a maybe an bit unrealistic.

Id be more than happy if games ran at a consistent 1440p with a stable frame rate.
