I think they need to go as early as possible as the Switch is really struggling now. Tears felt like it squeezed every last inch out of it, and there is nothing mega on the horizon. 2024 surely has to be the last Christmas for it.

I'd like to see Switch 2 launch with a new Mario for once. Wasn't the last console released with a proper Mario way back on the N64?

I think there is a strong chance of this. Switch launched with BotW (granted it was also on Wii U), and the console and title went hand in hand for most written pieces of that time. A full 3D Mario game would generate a similar amount of buzz or more.

Full 3D Mario must be ready by now, we also won’t be getting a new 3D Zelda for at least another 4 years so they need a big title to launch with. Mario Kart will likely appear in the launch window as well, they’ll want to come out all guns blazing with this console to keep the Switch brand momentum going strong.

TP/WW 1440p ports for Switch 2 launch :datass:

I can see TotK getting an upgrade though, as already said, it’ll be years before we get a brand new Zelda game.

This is the longest time between 3D Marios ever, we're way overdue.

3D Mario on launch and Mario Kart within 6 months I reckon.

Yeah, I can see it being quite expensive following the past few years of economic issues. With the Switch OLED currently priced at around £289.99 I could see Switch 2 launching at £379.99.

Hopefully it’ll be around the £350 mark.

Yeah, if the tech inside is substantially beefier than the OG it won’t be less than £400. £379.99 sounds a good price point, you wonder as well if that’s the price they end up at will they throw a pack in game alongside to sweeten the deal?

And so proper information at last. Even if it's just to reassure investors that a singular light year isn't going to be an issue. I do wonder when our first look at it will be if nothing for it will be at the June Direct. July? October? I feel around October is most likely. I would also hope every month from launch in its first year has a big game. And that there's a worthwhile racing game or two in the first half.

New console means new weird 1st party game made to show off the gimmicks like Wii sports, Nintendoland and 1-2 switch

Makes the most sense, hopefully they don’t balls up the branding again and call it Switch U or something

Think this also makes BC with OG Switch games more a reality, I think almost every time Nintendo has made a sequel console ( GB to GBA, DS to 3DS, Wii to Wii U) they have included BC features.

I know it should have been a certainty, but with Nintendo’s track record, it’s nice to know they’re taking the sensible option this time. Fingers crossed it’s literally called Switch 2 as well, just to make it easy to market as well.

RUMOUR/LEAK - Specs have leaked

It appears the Switch 2 specs have leaked via component shipping information (Think this happened with Switch OG as well)

Articles may start to appear soon but here is a summary

1536 CUDA Cores, 48 tensor cores, 12 RT cores
Ampere architecture with features backported from Ada
8x ARM A78C
File decompression engine
12 GB LPDDR5X RAM 7500 MT/s
256 UFS 3.1

So it’s pretty much what was rumoured, to put it in a bit more context

Handheld: Right above PS4* before DLSS

Docked: Between PS4 Pro* & Xbox Series S* before DLSS with more modern hardware than the former

RAM: Slower than PS5 & XSX|S in the speed department, but more capacity than XSS. Should have 10.5-11 GB of RAM available to games going by the Switch 1's RAM allotment for its OS.

Storage: UFS 3.1's max speeds should be a hair under XSX|S (2.1 GB/s vs. 2.4 GB/s), still plenty fast even if not maxed out.
Lines up with what Digital Foundry & NateDrake heard about decompression techniques & fast load times of the BotW tech demo (respectively for each source).

* = Not only is the Switch 2 ARM-based rather than x86 like the systems compared, it's also Nvidia vs. AMD. There are plenty of factors at play to where it's not an apples-to-apples comparison. Plus the native Tensor cores of the Switch 2 will allow for DLSS, letting the system punch above its weight & decrease the size of the gap between it & the XSS. Nintendo could throttle down the SoC to the floor, but I'm not sure it'll be a doomsday scenario since this is a custom chip to begin with.

So all in all quite a beefy system (for a handheld anyway) grain of salt as always but this all seems legit due to where the info has come from. Components found were a tablet (containing the above) a left and right controller (So joycon, now with a magnetic connection) and a dock. Screen was also mentioned by not which type (LCD or OLED)

Just thinking of what Nintendo studios like MonolithSoft and the Zelda and Mario teams will do with this much of a jump over the previous switch……exciting times!

It should fall within the £350-400 range hopefully, I can also see a OLED model with 512gb storage coming later down the line

I only hope its as long lasting as the current Switch, its a bit silly that the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles have barely feel to even gotten going (even though we're 3.5 years into those consoles) before rumours of Pro/new consoles have come about, at least with the Switch it had a really good few years before rumours of new hardware came about (that ended up being the OLED, potentially a canned upgrade), in hindsight the Switch just about got by without needing an upgrade, the PS5 and Xbox consoles definitely don't need an upgrade though. I'd not be fussed if they stuck with the LCD either, the base Switch screen is really nice when playing handheld.

I also wonder if they might go straight for a Switch 2 and Switch Lite 2 at launch this time?
