It would be very easy for Nintendo to innovate on Mario Kart 9/10-how about finally reinventing the single player?

I'd settle for those missions from the DS making a comeback.

Mario Kart Maker confirmed :datass:

That could be pretty neat, aayl! I recall making tracks in Scalextric (C64) and Lotus III (Amiga). I think that the track side detail and location could be tricky buy maybe there could be ways around this.

Next Mario Kart should be an open world racer set on Wuhu Island and feature characters from all Nintendo IP.

It occurs to me that a more powerful Switch should be able to add GameCube to its online lineup. You'd think.

Only reason not to do that is if there are titles on the Cube that Nintendo still fancies remastering.

It's a good score, but they really should be aiming for 10/10.

They could do this on current Switch, they have an emulator in place already. They're not doing it for the reason you state. I reckon we'll get some more, standalone HD remasters of GC titles on Switch 1 before the release of 2 to pad out the lineup.

Ideally we’d get Echoes and Corruption before those though.

They know they can sell remasters of GC/Wii era stuff so I doubt they’d look to bring those to a VC service. Might get original DS next time round though, they’ll need some new systems to push the online subs.

They'll be able to resell some of the GC/Wii/DS/3DS catalogue, but they will give some away if we get any of these added as part of NSO in the future.

Take Animal Crossing GC for example, I know I'd be there day one even just for a re-release of that, but I imagine probably 95% of people who bought New Horizons would just stick with that, on the NSO it'd probably do reasonably well really (I assume they track how many times a game has been played, or once per Nintendo account anyway).

The ex wife and I spent days of accumulated play on the GC version but New Horizons is light years ahead of it with all of the extra content. It makes me sad thinking about the GC version though, as my life was completely different back then and I yearn for those happy days compared to what my pitiful existence is now.

Apologies for being so morose, it just feels good to say stuff like that with complete anonymity as I cant in real life.

Rapidly-greying is Mediocre to Average at games :fp:

I think you'd need to simplify the game's physics slightly, but I don't think this is a bad thing and could be a good way (and time) to "reboot" Mario Kart. For instance go back to a slightly more stripped back physics engine (and limit vehicles to go karts again) but lean into the fidelity the Switch 2 will bring and I think the more basic approach will be forgiven if it a) feels great to play and b) allows for a "tileset" approach in the track building, paving the way for users to make and upload their own tracks.

Have a few tilesets for aesthetic purposes (perhaps themed around Super Mario Kart! Mario Circuit tileset giving you a classic go kart feel, Donut plains a more natural style, etc) and I can see this being a goer.

Also if the Switch 2 has a Wii U style functionality (can simultaneously be played in handheld and cast to the dock/TV) the track editor will really come into its own.

Give me a job Nintendo.

I expect a 3D Mario and a Galaxy 2 remaster will happen in the lifespan of this thing.

Also a remaster Xenoblade Chronicles X, with better faces.

Tomorrow morning is the next investors meeting, should advise what to expect over the coming year so we may see them acknowledge a new console will come in the next FY

Probably per the 'where's the love' thread, my fondest gaming memories do coincide with when I had the most time to play them.

Remember sinking so much time into GC-era stuff. I sold my GC a few years ago, after firing up Rogue Squadron II and found it pretty unplayable on my modern TV: couldn't pick out Tie Fighters against the backgrounds, etc. All very blurry. Does make me think emulation might not be enough for that gen of games: they'd need sharpening, IMO.

I know this is a scandalous idea but maybe Nintendo could start a new generation with a new IP?

Calm down everyone, it's only an idea.

They did that for Switch.

It was called 1-2 Switch :dread:
