The Anor Londo run. :dread:
Even after many, many hundred hours with this game, the Anor Londo bonfire run still gives me troubles sometimes. A spear or rapier and a good shield is the easiest way.

i'm using the lightening Spear that I just picked up at the mo.

just using the grass shield at the mo.

I just managed it for the first time. I've never avoided death there before.

Ok, Ive been playing this today and Im really getting into it.

Took me a long time to wrap my head around the whole 'you're supposed to die' and that, but once I did I learned the mechanics and timings and rules of the world and Im really progessing.

Ive killed Taurus (second try), downstairs knight after a few goes, gargoyles (first try), Havel after a couple of goes and a few more. I really can see what you all see in it now, Im a convert. Taking a break as all the new areas seem too scary and Im a bit tired. Next play Im going to try and get the black knight on the tower.

I've killed the Taurus, Gargoyles and made my way to the garden. I opened the sealed door to the area with other 'main characters' who attack you and reached the wolf before dying and losing 20000 souls. I'm not sure if I should try to beat the wolf again but I won't head through another part of the garden to lake monster or even Drake Valley. I've been there before and I don't think I'm powerful enough to make returning a good idea.

I'm going to go to the ghost area from Firelink Shrine next. Hopefully I'll have more luck with the wolf after that.

This game

If you mean New Londo Ruins
there's little point going there until you're near the end of the game. If nothing else it's a pretty hard area and without a certain item you can't even fight the boss
.

If you've just killed the Gargoyles I'd recommend heading for the Moonlight Butterfly.

Yep I meant New London Ruins. Ok I'll steer clear of that. I tried the Moonlight Butterfly and lost about 8000 souls there. I'll go back to that before I try the wolf again. Those big knights before the butterfly were hard the first time I was there! Though I managed to get the hang of them and cleared the whole area after a few attempts.

Did you summon Witch Beatrice to help with the Butterfly? She comes in pretty handy but is next to useless in NG+ and beyond.

Unless they've patched it out now then the area through the sealed door is a really good place to farm souls.

If you want to do it in the proper order, go to the Depths, via Lower Undead Burg. Go through the locked door near that knight who gave you the White Sign Soapstone. The key is in the Undead Parish near the Halberd. You probably already picked it up.

I'm gonna start a new game on PS3. Going for a pure Deprived game. I'd tried Deprived before but not since the Bottomless Box Glitch was fixed.

I'm up for some co-op if anyone fancies helping or being helped. My user name is Cumberdanes feel free to add me.

When it clicks and you get that "holy crap I get it now" it's a great feel. You'll now wonder why every other game keeps getting it wrong.

Yeah man, totally agree. Its fantastic.

Im not gonna pretend its perfect though, some things are just obtuse for no reason. I got a firekeepers soul so wanted to use it to improve my estus flask. Read the inventory tool tip which told me to use it to improve so >use item and just saw my humanity increase with no estus boost.

Had to ctrl alt del as fast as possible and reload. Such a load of gooseberry fool.

Aside from that, pretty great. Too scared to go on now. Will cut my teeth mashing the black knight then see where the winds take me.

Edit - forgot I killed the titanite dude by the blacksmith too

I'll head to the Depths per Bigerich's advice as I have no humanity and so cannot summon as I'm hollow. What would I need to summon except to be human?

Also, how have I missed the Firekeeper's Soul?

Been playing some of this during the heat of the day waiting to get out in the evening. Still amazing. Back to the Lord souls now. Definitely easier with the warrior.
