Looks good, I imagine it'll sell quite a few copies at launch too.

The combat looked awfully shallow. Superb presentation, though, I think every finishing move was different.

They said that they'd changed the game for the E3 stage showing so that the execution moves happened more quickly than they would normally.

Also said that there were 100s of them.

I'm keen to know how much of a story the game has, whenabouts it's supposed to be set, where your campaigns will take you, whether you'll be involved in any pitched battles as well as city fighting etc.

http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/06/11/i ... qte-combat
The melee fighting that began shortly thereafter felt very similar to Batman:ArkhamCity, with the basic principle being to strike with the X button and counter with the shield using the A button
These executions aren’t quite quick time events, in that most of them are simply one-button prompts rather than a sequence, and failing them by pushing the wrong button usually still results in a dead barbarian, just with a smaller batch of experience points as a reward.

Being like batman arkham combat can only be a good thing. It depends on the variety I suppose.

It's still early days and that's the first showing but i'm hoping there's good variety to the gameplay. Whether it's in the form of puzzles or some sort of vehicle section. Looks stunning graphically unsurprisingly though.

It looks like a load of gooseberry fool. Once the console has been out for a year no one will remember this.

Is it on rails? Because it looks like you just press forward until you get to an enemy and then do a QTE.

It's not on rails (you can wander around that beach at the start) and no QTEs in normal combat like Batman, AC or God of War.

Any info on the places the game will go, characters players will meet etc? A videogame version of Rome or Spartacus seems like such a next gen thing to do. Hell, I'd love there to be some sort of Mass Effect-style RPG set in antiquity. It seems like such an under-explored part of our heritage, outside of RTS games.

I would love that, I think it is just hard to translate a controller into ancient weopons.

Only in the same way Mass Effect 3 was a Kinect game.

I still think it looks really, really good.

More excited about playing this than probably any other launch title we've seen.

Wasn't this originally going to be a kinect game though? Like that Fable game etc?

Yeah but it looks like they've completely taken it out of the combat and now its just issuing commands at certain points with voice control, you don't even have to do that though they've got button prompts in for everything as well.

Graphics look amazing but gameplay looks extremely shallow and those QTEs are too slow and frequent, so will get annoying fast.

The guy keeps saying they aren't QTEs.

I think what he means is that they don't just lead to one scripted event and if you don't press them the game doesn't enter a fail state, it also flows with the standard combat in a seamless way.

It looks ok to me to be honest, I think until you start playing it won't be clear how much depth there is to the system.
