I voted for that idiot and the reason I won't vote for him again is because he's got less backbone than something with no backbone and not because he's an atheist.

I couldn't think of anything funny without a backbone.

I voted for him too but he has turned out to be as limp as a eunuch's cock. Never again.

Unless you both happen to live in Sheffield Hallam then you didn't bloody vote for Nick Clegg.

People in the UK are worried about religion in general, even when a PM seems to be too Christian they get suspicious. Look at Tony Blair and how people kept trying to accuse him of being weakened because he would let his strong beliefs influence policy. That would be uncontemplatable for Americans, who pretty much expect their leader to assure them that their decissions are grounded in faith in someway. Ours try to do the opposite.

I don't think people would be too opposed to someone of different faith being leader here so long as they did not make anything of it and did not appear to be truly 'religious'.

I'm not too familiar with UK politics so who is he?

Disraeli was a full blown Jewish Prime Minister.

Yeah, he'd been "perfected" by the time he came into office, though.

He was born a Jew but converted to CoE at an early age. So he half counts. ;)

What an imbecile. What's his stance on condoms, incidentally?

I'm sure I read someone that he and his wife made a decision to terminate a pregnancy because her life was in danger. Which makes his position to outlaw abortion in all circumstances, somewhat hypocritical.

EDIT: Here's the article, so I was misremembering the details somewhat. Irregardless Rick Santorum has both terrible opinions and a terrible name.

As he told CaffeinatedThoughts.com editor Shane Vander Hart in October, “One of the things I will talk about, that no president has talked about before, is I think the dangers of contraception in this country,” the former Pennsylvania senator explained. “It’s not okay. It’s a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be.”

Clearly mere coincidence that his name can be misread as Sanatorium.
