Delayed until 2015

Quantum Break won't arrive on Xbox One before 2015, and don't expect any new gameplay to be shown off at E3 either.

That's according to developer Remedy Entertainment's Sam Lake, who revealed fresh details about the game in a new video, and also promised we'd see more of the title at Gamescom in August.

"We are working hard to bring you an entertainment experience like no other," he said. "Quantum break will be out in 2015. I’m very excited to tell you that we’ll be presenting Quantum Break’s time-amplified action gameplay for the first time ever in August at Gamescom."

Elsewhere in the video, Lake explained how the upcoming cinematic action game would interact with the live action show that's also planned.

"The game is about heroes, the show is about villains," he revealed. "In the game you play Jack Choice in a desperate fight to stop the fracture, that threatens to cause the end of time. In the show, in the style of a modern TV series you follow the schemes and power play inside Monarch – the corporation that’s Jack’s main enemy."

I'm not sure you can make a big deal out of it being 2015, it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't end up slipping even further (remember Alan Wake).

It is surprising that they aren't showing it off at E3 though. Hope its not an indication that there won't be much in the way of games at the MS conference.

Wouldn't be the first time there was a misleading title, or that games were promised at a conference that massively under-delivered.

IGN Preview of the behind the scenes demo -

I’ve finally seen a solid chunk of gameplay from Quantum Break, and it looks every bit the AAA shooter experience we’ve come to expect from the team that brought us both Max Payne and Alan Wake. From the jaw-dropping ‘time stutters’ that freeze your surroundings, to the kinetic gun battles with enemies that go beyond Max Payne’s bullet dodging by allowing the player to catch bullets and hurl them back at enemies, to the jaw-dropping environmental effects that send ripples through concrete as though they were waves in the ocean. It’s a game seemingly designed to wow and bedazzle the player at every turn, and one that appears to push the Xbox One hardware like few games before it.

Just watched the gameplay demo of this. It looks good, but was it always going to be shootbang? And have they abandoned the whole TV tie in thing?

The guns look a bit crap, and that short chunk of gameplay reminds me a lot of Tomb Raider - just trying to dazzle you with explosions and time stutters and what not every five feet. And of course the whole "heavy" bad guy in loads of armour is a video game trope that sorely needs to die.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more buzz about this coming out of Gamescom.

From the developers of Max Payne and Alan Wake it's always been a shooter. The on disc fancy cut scenes are still in.

Yeah i've just caught up with the Gamescom demonstration and I was a little disappointed with what I saw. Admittedly I wasn't sure what I was expecting to begin with but I guess I was just hoping for a bit more than a third person cover shooter. Maybe I just need to hear more about how these time manipulation powers work. Graphics looked very nice though.

I think the key to this one will be the story. It was confusing as strawberry float at times but I did enjoy Alan Wake's story so i'm hoping Remedy can do the business with this as well.

Talk about a hype killer, just a really bad, linear predictable shooter. I should have known with the mess that was Alan Wake.

If this was much better then they needn't have bothered moneyhatting Tomb Raider. I was also disappointed, but like 47 says, the strength of Remedy's games has always been the yarn. Alan Wake was a bit of a state in terms of the narrative in my opinion, but the presentation, the ambition, was top class.

Looked pretty good to me from what was shown.

The quality of the final product will be 100% down to stuff you can't see in a short demo like this, pacing and level design over the entire game. Coming from Remedy I'm not too worried about it being bad in any way.

Article about the TV Show part of the game -

You play an act of the game and that culminates in something we call a junction in time. Our bad guy Paul Serene has time powers and he has the most powerful time power of all: power to see glimpses of future timelines, and in these moments you actually play him. So it’s our equivalent, interactive equivalent, of the bad guy planning and making his moves. You make a choice and that becomes, in your game, the future that comes to be. And after that junction moment we go into an episode of a show and immediately you start seeing the choice you made, the consequences of it in the live action show and after that we go to the next act of the game. And obviously when you make a choice that carries over, you see things become reality from that choice for the rest of game.

Their mistake was making the video too long. They just start using the same powers again and again and it becomes boring and doesn't look like there's anything else to it. They're probably holding stuff back, but when you have a demo that long and you're just repeating yourself it doesn't inspire confidence.

I'm always amazed people can make such sweeping judgements based on so little. We've seen a tiny portion of the early part of the game. Is it really so unreasonable to assume that the early portions may be more linear while players get used to the mechanics? Alan Wake is a good example, plenty of sections were linear, but a lot of sections weren't. There was often a lot to explore.
