I cant really comment on all the fuss over on the forums as I dont use them, and I couldnt give less of a gooseberry fool about consoles, but Ive been playing today and all I can say is that its really bloody good.

Ive been playing it since it was available to purchase a couple of years back and as far as I can tell no real functionality has been removed. Its still easily the most open and customisable racing experience there is, bar none. You can take it from a point where the game plays it for you to the point where you really need three screens and a real cockpit to enjoy it. Ive settled somewhere in the middle for now.

Controller support is much better than it was, but still not completely perfect. Im finding it still a little twitchy for minor adjustments in a straight line, but Im going to try and tune that out later with some analogue filtering.

And its still desperately pretty. Sadly the anti aliasing doesnt get captured in screenshots as its a post processing effect that isnt detected by screenshot software.

Averaging about 140FPS on my current config.

This has happened in the past to franchises that were exclusively on PC before being developed with consoles in mind. It's the same reason why seeing cross generation games in 2015 is usually a cause for concern.

The PC is lead platform and has always been the lead platform.

As far as Im concerned Id be very suprised if a Wii release ever sees the light of day.

This kind of game really should be pc only as you can only get a true sim game on there.

A think a lot of you are misunderstanding the scope of this game.

Imagine this - a menu where you can choose to set every aspect of the game from arcade mode to simulation mode and everything in between. Adjust marshall rules, AI ability, handling model, assists, damage, race rules etc.

Well thats what this has. Every single component of it is basically customisable from 0-100.

It doesnt matter what platform you choose, you tune it to fit you and how you want to play it.

First, disclosure: the last build I played of this was easily six months ago - since then I haven't bothered downloading the monthly releases.

Last time I played it, anything other than 'easy' AI was basically unfair to the point of being unplayable. On the other hand, 'easy' AI was - as you suggested earlier - the game playing itself and therefore utterly unenjoyable (you have practically no control over the car you are driving as it effectively drives itself around the tracks). Also, the AI was comically inept. I mean seriously slapstick at times.

Has this changed at all? Oh, and performance on my PC was never, ever satisfactory. So many concessions to a demanding game spec on a PC that, to this day, runs brand new releases like Dying Light with minimal fuss. Is it better now?

Cal if you are gooseberry fool at racing games you will be gooseberry fool at this. Thats all I can say. It works for me (Im actually going to turn the difficulty up), but I play these things all the time.

The AI behaviour I couldnt really give an authoritative answer because I dont spend much time bumping into them. They seem to stick to the racing line and jostle with eachother, spread out organically, and try to avoid hitting me.

Performance, I dont know. Depends on your machine. As with every PC game ever, just fiddle with the settings till it works. The AA options in this are particularly brutal and you can actually apply different methods on top of eachother if you want to murder your video card, so just use a bit of common sense and understand what it is you are adjusting.

I'm playing it now for the first time in months and they don't seem to have gimped it to me. I do play with some slightly gimped settings like auto gears but I have damage, tyre wear and fuel consumption set to full. Career seems to be fully playable now. Blitzing around in a kart feels weird.

Where do the photos save?

Also 4k60 on max (except AA is fxaa)

What a load of gooseberry fool.

Not sure if serious. On both counts.

Ad7, you really think PS4 couldn't do a 'proper' sim?

Really?

The only "real" sim racer on consoles was Race Pro on 360 - a conversion of Race 07 which was marred by performance problems which, considering it was a modified rFactor engine, didn't bode well for anything more complicated. Plus I don't think it'd sell well. Super-accurate race sims, with flags, penalties, long-ass races and no levelling up/buying cars wouldn't do well. Hence no conversions of rFactor, iRacing (lel imagine paying for both xbox live/PS+ AND the iRacing sub), Assetto Corsa or any of the others. I think a lot of people are going to go into pCars expecting something familiar, and it really won't be.

I really enjoyed Race Pro. It was functional but mighty.

Most of those features are in console sims and there's plenty of people that would prefer not to grind for cars. I don't think his comment referred to that though. In context it sounds like he said the PS4 just couldn't do it...which is balls, frankly.

Personally I can't wait. I've never played any 'PC sim' but I know what I'm getting day one with this game.

Yeah, Race Pro had the best handling model of a console sim racer of all time. It's a shame that the graphics were so lacklustre and that it didn't have the features of other racing games.

If NFS: Shift's graphics, sense of speed and aggressive AI co had been married with Race Pro's handling... Wow. That would have blown away every other console racer.

You just do them without choosing. That is what is in my screens above. I did the touring cars event then it put me in the British event with the bac mono followed by back to the karts. Hoping that it's a case of burning out whatever kart contract I have then switching to one of the teams I've tried.

Interest in the game is nearly zero. Cannot wait for gran turismo 7.
