This would all be incredibly funny if we weren't 27 months from a general election.

She's not going anywhere, just like Kwasi.

Bankers' bonuses are still going to be uncapped, so not everything in the mini budget is dead. Small victories for Truss and Kwarteng.

They'll spend more means testing any help for energy bills than it would ever cost to just fix the price for everyone.

The main thing that needed changing with the existing help was that it needed to be funded by taxes on energy wholesalers, not general taxation.

If she makes it to Wednesday, PMQs is going to be fun.

Starmer should keep asking if Hunt can answer because he wants to speak directly with the PM.

This just isn't true. The forecasted cost is/was £120bn over the next 2 years on the consumer part alone. The yearly MoD budget is a tad under £50bn.

The huge profits all lie with the Qataris, the Norwegians etc. The proposed (and available) windfall taxes barely touch the sides- Labour's proposals had something like £12bn?

Over 6 months was Labour's plan and makes more sense. Why commit to 2 years of borrowing at this point when you don't know what the fuel price will do?

6 months makes more sense and can be revisited again in April.

If I was Truss, and about to go down in history as the worst PM ever, I'd dissolve parliament, call a GE, say it was my plan to burn the Tories to the ground all along, and then rejoin the Lib Dems. Boom, instant hero to the majority of the country. And her Dad might return her calls again.
