I'm back home now, so here is a quick summary of my Goliath tournament:
Me and Dark Ritual both start on the same table. There are about 3 nits that are waiting for premium hands, and the rest of the table is quite LAG. I somehow reduce my stack from 25k to 14k, but then just before the first break I manage to knock someone out with AJ v J5 on a J346 board. The river is an ace and I go to the break with 35k.
As soon as I get back from the break the run good starts and I get deal Aces or kings almost every hand. With Q8s I manage to make quad queens. Then about three hands later I get dealt AA and hit quad aces. This wins me entry into some £10k jackpot freeroll where even last place wins £25.
Just before the dinner break i'm on 75k but then lose 10k in a pot where I have ace high and think I'm ahead but decide to give up rather than bluff off a huge part of my stack.
After dinner I am on a new table and as soon as I sit down I see UTG raise and call a 3-bet with 95. He then flops two pair and gets it in against A9. A couple of hands later and I see someone else get knocked out because they raised with AA and some guy decided to set mine with 22 even though the aces guy didn't have that many chips. He flops a set of twos and another person leaves our table.
The first hand I play is 44 but someone shoves into my raise and I fold. They have QQ so it was a good fold, but the same thing happens a few times and before I know it I'm down 15k without seeing a flop. So my stack is 50k and I get AK in EP. I raise and get one caller. I can't remember the exact cards but it looked like a safe flop and so I bet when it checked to me. Turn is also nothing and I bet again. The plan was to shove on the river as I'm sure I can get him to fold if I bet three streets, but he shoves the river before me and so I have to fold.
This left me with 25k. I look at 67s in MP and there are already a few limpers so I meant to limp here but accidentally used the wrong colour chip and raised 7k. The next guy to act says he can take advantage of my mistake and put me all-in, to which I tell him that I will call if he does that. He folds and so do a couple fo the limpers, but then one guy decides to raise to 13k. I snap shove my 25k stack and he shows 33. It's the best I can hope for in that spot but I still don't understand how he can play that hand when he knows I'm all-in and he's flipping at best. The flop gives me an open straight draw but turn and river are blanks and I'm out.
It was good fun and we all lasted most of the day (except Sykes
, and Dark Ritual who made Day 2!
)
Cheers everyone!
