Never played the original versions. Should I be getting hyped?

To be honest, the Pokemon remakes aren't that bad. They are usually quite a leap forward from the original titles (helped by the fact that the GBC/GBA were quite simplistic) so they usually take advantage of the decade in between each release. The new engine means they will be different from all the older games too, bar X/Y.

They are usually the most "complete" versions of Pokemon as well.

These will hopefully be the last remakes now, though, as they can't really go back to Diamond and Pearl. They could do a 3D Red/Blue I guess.

A remake of Fire Red/Leaf Green with more fleshing out of the Sevii islands with extra gyms and none of that "Go to a Nintendo event to get the sea pass to unlock islands 7-9" would be good.

They should just keep updating HeartGold, the objective best Pokémon game.

Was Ruby and Sapphire not remakes of Red and Blue?

Nah, they're completely different games. You're thinking of Fire Red / Leaf Green.

Also I think in this case the term 'remake' is a bit misgiving as it's not like it's going to be a straight port to 3DS or anything like that. They promise a new adventure in a "spectacular new world" and while that's probably over-egging it a bit I expect there will be a lot more to these remastered/reimagined versions than the original RSE.

I'll definitely be going with Sapphire anyway. Kyogre is one of my very favourite pokes and I already got a decent Groudon from Soul Silver :)

Hopefully Latias will be the exclusive Lati twin for Sapphire, as I've already got a decent Latios and can get another from my Black 2..!

Generation 3 is the worst. But saying that, it's a Pokemon game, so I will buy this gooseberry fool without any thoughts.

Just tone down the Tentacools and Zubats.

Day one Ruby. I never competed Emerald so I'll do my best to beat the Elite Four here. I still have to finish Y

Same. Depending on what information is revealed at E3 I might quickly slam through the Elite 4 and then punt it while it can still get a decent price, then wait for the new batch.
