I can see this meaning a cut to under £200 before Xmas, hopefully just before Killzone comes out :shifty:

Why not? The 3DS had a similar gap between "preorder buzz" and actual sales. If you can slap down a pre-order for free then it's not out of the question people placed orders online, early or otherwise, and then once the date got near decided to cancel for various reasons.

EDIT - We also don't know how exactly the preorders are calculated, so people jumping between online deals could be counted as separate preorders.

Its already available at that price.

If you were sensible pre-ordering, the system was selling for the equivalent of roughly £165.

well, whilst the prices are as they are i don't suppose they have anything to worry about. But i think a good piece of kit is great as it forces competition. Sounds like it does have everything the gamers here want.

i'd think the Vita will be a great gaming system, but at to high a price for its games and hardware.... not many will find out.

Kind of odd Pocket Gamer only has this news, while the usual outlets such as EDGE & MCV have no mention of what is currently being reported from PocketGamer using "industry sources".

3DS managed 113,000 in the UK at launch, & that was just over a weekend. 46,000 in, what, 5 days? That can't be right, surely.

Hence my sniffyness. Especially considering 100k games being sold seems very feasible from the estimates I've heard. I'd personally think 80k Vitas in the UK is fairly close to the true figure.

I assume Pocket Gamer have different sources to Edge/MCV. Edge's/MCVs sources either don't know/won't tell/aren't available. PG have at least 2 sources telling them the same figures so ran with the story. The story is from former Eurogamer editor Kristen Reed.

Pocket Gamer have added another paragraph to their story:-

'We all saw it coming'

Meanwhile, one senior source felt that the low UK sales should not come as a surprise.

"It's disappointing, sure, but we all saw it coming," said the source.

"Realistically, I think a lot of people can see it's technically a great system, but people just don't have the cash to shell out for the same game twice. A lot will be waiting for a true system seller before taking the plunge, or, more likely, be happier continuing to pay 69p for dozens of mobile games.

"The market has changed," the source concluded.

Those figures aren't too bad. But I doubt they will get much better.
