Thanks for the reminder, I had already forgotten about this update. As soon as I get broadband at the new house I will check it out!

I'm excited for this Tren business. Looks lovely and tactile and fun, hopefully a great send-off by Media Molecule for Dreams (and hopefully better than Art's Dream which I found pretty insufferable). Away from PS5 at the moment but looking forward to giving it a go.

Feels like the Sony press team could have worded that one a lot better. Fag packet maths, that works out at about 84 pence extra a month on Essential. Sounds about in line with everything else going up.

You would think there would be a lot of cancellations coming in the coming year though.

Yeah, Extra and Premium are absolutely not worth it at those prices.

MS and Sony have really gooseberry fool the bed with their sub models this year.

GamePass has just been awful this year (and I honestly mean that, having loved it for the 3 years prior), whilst Sonys offerings have been very decent but are now becoming far too expensive.

Back to (still) buying games I guess.

Edit - I will give Sony one thing, at least they are not just swapping euro for pounds.

To be mathematical on this: £20 Premium yearly increase is 5.47 pence a day more.

But a PS Plus sub sale will surely come in the holidays (discounted to current ps plus prices :slol: )

Absolute bunch of banana splits. Sony are making more money than ever from PS and this is what they do? It beggars belief, the strawberry floating state of capitalism, strawberry float Sony.

There’s so many sales on the PSN and Xbox Stores these days, and great offers still on disc for non new releases, you’ve really got to weigh up what you want to play, how much time you have to play them, and whether that’s now better value than these subscriptions. These services can end up costing you the same amount or more than if you’d just bought the games on there anyway. Plus you get the benefit of actually owning them.

Let’s say you go for the £120 Premium option from Sony, well you could happily just buy 8-12 games with that outright.

I think Microsoft and Sony have now definitely passed from ‘well this is superb value for everyone’ to ‘well what’s good value for your gaming habits isn’t necessarily good value for me’. In terms of new releases, if you’re going to be playing something like Forza or Starfield for the next 6 months then you may as well have just bought it outright. Plus you’ll still have the advantage of being able to sell it on afterwards if you desire. With Sony it’s not normally the latest stuff, so there may be even bigger savings to be had with buying rather than ‘renting’.

It’s pretty sly to only increase the 12 month subs. I’m sure that’s what most people buy so they’re essentially raising the cost for 90% of their users while still keeping the headline monthly prices.

Technically the price hasn’t gone up, the discount for buying 12 months at a time has gone down!

Or at least, that’s probably how they thought it it could go down, but nobody’s buying it.

I’m stacked up with cheap Plus Premium and Gamepass Ultimate for years yet, but given they’ve been got at prices I’ll likely never see again, it’s starting to feel a bit like my looming mortgage fixed term ending.

Glad I just resubbed for 12 months at the old price because I would think long and hard about whether it's worth it at the new one

Pretty sure this is what Amazon did with their Prime subscription a couple of years back. Arseholes.

It's just pure greed, nothing more. I feel like Sterling is the only person calling this stuff out in a proportional way. It's why I rally so hard against the ABK acquisition, this sort of bollocks and things like the T2 CEO raising his salary by around 20 million, while laying off hundreds. Almost the entire industry sickens me and I honestly feel like it's beginning to effect how much I enjoy buying into it.

Nobody likes a price increase. For the last few years, I've picked up a years Plus at a 25% discount from the store in the December sale and will continue to do so. Having PS4 and PS5 games is such a win for me. Set my fiancee up with Lake, she hated it, so tried her on Story of Seasons and she's loving it. So that saved me buying Lake, only for her to put it down after ten minutes and frees the PS5 up for me!

The silly neighbourhood vegetable.

Maybe you need to take a break from gaming if it’s effecting you that much.

These yearly prices for the top tier is still €18 cheaper than GPU, but GPU does have EA Play, Bethesda and soon ABK, plus those Day One releases..

I'm furious enraged annoyed that Sony are raising the prices for PlayStation Plus. I'm not too interested in "free" games that I have to pay to access and I just want to play my own purchased games online. My sub (to Essential) runs out in March and I think I'll go pay-monthly at that point; stopping as and when I'm not planning to play an online game for a few weeks.

Yeah I don't think it's the value of the game subscriptions that is the big problem, but the value of being held hostage to the increasingly expensive base service just to play online.

F76 is the only online game I've really played for the past four years and, after paying out the £100 annual cost for the Fallout 1st sub, I begrudge paying out an additional £60 to Sony on top of that.

If I wasn't still into F76 I'd probs sack off PlayStation Plus completely at the mo'.

I didn't renew my PS+ last year and I genuinely haven't missed it one bit. This price increase is just appalling and ensures that I'll never even consider subscribing again.

Between things I've played and things the kids have played I've definitely still got enough value out of having Plus in the last year, but it's definitely getting harder and harder to be sure of that position going forward.
