I only just realised the PS5 can play 4K blu rays. :fp:

Why did i not know this sooner? Clearly i've not been paying enough attention.

That said, i don't have a 4K TV so it's all a bit academic really (though do 4K discs look better than normal blu ray on a 1080p TV? I honestly have no idea).

Mind you, it may be useful as some films are getting 4K releases but are not always available on regular blu ray (i normally watch my movies on my Sony Blu Ray player but that one doesn't play 4K discs).

Still, on a separate note, i finally got around to installing PS4 cities skylines, and i retrieved my saved data from the cloud storage so it means i can continue with my old Westfield city, and it now runs a lot smoother than it did on the old console. :D

I think all UHD blurays also come with a standard bluray, so even if you don't have the TV for it yet, you may as well start buying them that way for when you do (you're missing out on HDR too).

Ooh, take care with this as not all 4K versions come with a standard blu-ray as well; quite often they do but a fair number don't. The packaging always details this, though.

The Last of US steelbook edition set is the only time I’ve encountered a 4K-only release thus far, even though the paper wrap actually mentioned 4K + Blu Ray. Must have been a production error.

My Batman vs Superman (Ultimate Edition) and Justice League (Zack Snyder) discs are 4K only. Check this list for full details; a perhaps surprising number of 4K films don't have a standard blu-ray.

No input lag here either! I experienced the blur which you mentioned, but it has only occurred when the Portal first connected to the PS5. Given around ten seconds to catch up and everything is very clear.

I've tried Crash Team Racing (offline cup) and Call of Duty (online versus). Both are silky smooth. Honestly, I expected COD to be a silly choice with the Portal, but I was just as good (pretty bad) as I am on the console itself. If anything, I feel like I'm at something of an advantage, with the screen so close to me! I guess that the connection could still be a problem for prolonged play (perhaps I just haven't played it for long enough to experience drop outs), but as things currently stand, this streaming stuff works a treat.

The screen itself is larger than I expected and it's bright & clear - no concerns there.

So far then, I'm happy with my purchase. If I'm looking for niggles, I believe I noticed a couple of dropped frames on CTR. Nothing game breaking. I'm also getting used to actually holding the thing. It's big and a little weighty as a result, and I haven't yet quite got comfortable holding it. The analogue sticks were my main issue, but I use raised thumb caps on the PS5 controller and I'll probably pick up some raised thumb caps for this too, as they are a cheap and effective solution.

Happy to have finally picked one of these up!

I have to say that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s colours popped on the Portal while during cutscenes. And you can see the details better because you are close to the screen. Cait Sith’s fur especially.

Until just now... I hadn't known that there is a PlayStation Visa credit card.

It's US/Canada only, though. Apparently if you sign up for a card and then spend $600 on it within sixty days, you can claim twelve months of PlayStation Plus Premium.

So, if you're in the States, are looking for a new credit card, have six hundred dollars to splash out on something, and have the knowledge that it's probably better to pay off your credit card bill rather than racking up a debt... this could be for you.

Or, if you're a true PlayStation Pony, just sign up, flash the card about and deal with any money issues later 8-) .

It is true that some 4K discs don't have normal blu ray bundled in, that's why i was extra cautious when the Disney+ steelbooks were first announced as i wanted to make sure that they did include both versions before i placed any orders.

Tried Suicide Squad on my portal and thought that would struggle on the remote play because it’s an on online always game but to my surprise it works very well.

No slowdown or stuttering.

Just bought Kingdom Come: Deliverance "Royal" edition (basically GOTY, full game plus all DLC) for £3.49 on the PS store, 90% off until the 20th.

I've always fancied giving it a go but didn't want to spend too much on a game that I know isn't for everyone, but at that price it felt rude not to!

The PS5 console (disc version) is currently on offer at most UK retailers - including Amazon - for £409, down from £480.

PlayStation Portal is currently in stock in Game, Currys and PlayStation Direct. It seems to be hanging around for more than the customary five minutes, but I wouldn't hang around for long if anyone is keen.

I may as well turn off these stock alerts now...

A minor thing, but...

Strawb's sake. When you now get a system software update on your PS5 or PS4, you can no longer read the details about what the update contains. You have to use a smart phone (which I don't have), scan in a QR code and read what the update contains on your strawbin' phone.

These are multi-billion pound companies making pathetic changes that just frustrate. I'm guessing that they can now sack a member of staff as they don't need someone to copy the update text onto a console message.

Harrumph!

It’s so they can correct errors in the text without having to repackage and redistribute the whole firmware.

I have truetrophies and I want fwiends :'( If anyone has account there and would like to add me there: https://www.truetrophies.com/gamer/SevenFisher

Also damn going through sale on PSN is quite hell at times. At least it's quick unlike Switch eshop, but there's so many trash games on it. It didn't help most of these are mainly for trophy boosting - and I've no interest in that as I'd rather interesting/fun games to go through

Grabbed Theatrhymth though, it being half price is solid as I wasn't too keen on spending fifty bucks for it.

Im on that site. Also be careful as a lot of sale games have glitched trophies or trophies not possible to get. Think you can get that info from the same site... not sure.

This surely isn't the reason, there must be a workable way to update the RNs without repackaging everything.

Even if that is the case, why can’t the console just open the link to the text?
