For me each FIFA trailer/demo just feels like a bunch of string puppets kicking a sponge about. The puppets themselves look absolutely nothing like human beings, god knows what goes on n these face modelling vans they've been sending out to clubs because the results are frankly piss-poor, the player body models are even worse.
As for the gameplay, it's very smooth, but again it never feels like you're controlling a human being in FIFA, the players feel like they're skating about in sheer disregard of their own momentum or the law of physics. My favourite trick is to come in from the right wing and zig-zag through defenders up to the penalty spot and score with Pennant. It's about time EA addressed their core problems instead of lumping features on each year.
Yeah because nobody has ever complained about the flaws in FIFA.
It says a lot for how good the core gameplay is that despite some flaws in the latest versions people are willing to keep playing.
FIFA is in the same position Pro Evo was back with the likes of Pro Evo 3, 4 and 5, where the majority done was existing tweaks to an already good game. Pro Evo does not currently have that luxury right now and while it's no doubt a good thing they've decided to start from scratch with this engine, it shouldn't mean that much right now, because we've heard all this talk from both Konami and EA before. The fact that one of the main arguing points in this thread seems to be the graphics doesn't bode well. It's the same argument FIFA was using back when no-one who wanted to play a proper football game would touch it. gooseberry fool like bigging up the fact that Italy's shirt has shiny stripes shouldn't be important to a generation that were happy to suffer derbies between Merseyside Red and Merseyside Blue, where kits were generic one colour hash jobs and nobodies name was correct. Is anyone really going to give a gooseberry fool about players faces looking spot-on after a week playing?
Like I said, it's great they've decided to start anew but I'm not going to be jumping for joy just yet. Same goes for FIFA when EA trot their latest soundbites out about the newest version. It's silly to excited as this point because no video, no highlight reel or preview can truly tell us how good it feels.
